Greetings -
I recently learned that my father’s uncle Bobby was the leader of a jazz big band based in Nebraska during the 1940’s and 50’s. His primary instrument was saxophone and he adopted the stage name of Bobby Mills (né Micek). The group was eventually christened the “Bobby Mills Orchestra” and became a popular touring attraction across the Midwest. Among its members were three of Bobby’s brothers and one of his sisters (they had a large family).
These great uncles - and one aunt - are relatives who I never met and have heard very little about over the years. How enjoyable to hear a story of my musical roots going back a couple generations! Where does music begin for you in your family tree? Our dedication to our craft always starts with some kind of a spark, whether from a family member or a teacher. I encourage you to take a moment today to reflect on your musical journey.
All the best,
Jesse Micek

Our MTAC branch will be presenting an all-Beatles music concert on Saturday, May 7th at 4pm. It will be held at Christ's Community Church in Hayward. There will be a dress rehearsal on Saturday, April 30th, so factor that into your planning. The program will be comprised of students from our branch performing duet, trio, and quartet arrangements of songs by The Beatles. Musical collaboration will be a theme of this concert.
The Beatles songs are perhaps the most extensively notated and transcribed of any group in pop music history. There are plenty of published options when it comes to duet, trio, and quartet arrangements of Beatles music. We have assembled a list of song arrangements along with sheet music links in a Google Sheet. You will find that link below.
After you have found a song arrangement that you are happy with and have students committed to perform the song on May 7th, then type in your information in the Google Sheet. That will reserve the song for you and your students. Each song will be featured in the program only one time. If you have an arrangement of a Beatles song that is not on this list, just add the song at the bottom or create a new row within the song list and add your information. The sign-ups will be first come, first served, so act quickly if this performance opportunity interests you and your students.
If you have any questions about this event or need help selecting a song arrangement, contact Jesse Micek at: jessemicek@yahoo.com

Dear All,
Thank you to everyone who participated in our December concert! We had a great turnout and we helped the branch earn funds to continue the MTAC program. Thank you to all who responded to our interest form as well, we appreciate your input and we will continue working to make MSSL a better organization to bring music to the underprivileged.
Our next event this year will be on February 19th at 3:00pm. The venue is Sunrise Senior living:
Here is the sign-up form for the event:
Sign-ups will close on 2/18 at 11:59 PM. If the total time reaches one hour before the 18th, then signups will close then. Proof vaccination is required for this performance.
Responses:
Please note the dress code should be business casual—meaning no jeans or sneakers.
We have a few new rules regarding participation in these events:
1. We will make memorization optional. While we would prefer memorized pieces, we understand it is still early in the year and many of you are still working on new pieces. Therefore, we will make memorization optional, but if you need a page turner, do let us know so we can be prepared. We want to avoid messy page turns that distract from the performance.
2. All active members must participate in at least one event each semester. This December event is the only one left in this semester. Please plan to attend, or email us if you have conflicts and we can figure out something.
We have also updated our membership form, and will be accepting membership through google form. Attached is the link:
Important Note: Please remember to pay the membership fee. You cannot participate in this event unless we have received your membership fee by February 18th. All returning members must pay the $15 membership fee (officers are exempt). Due to the current situation, we will be accepting both checks and Zelle.
For Zelle, please send membership fees to MTACSACB@gmail.com with the note in the memo: MSSL Membership Fee for (name of member).
For checks, you can either bring them to the event on the 11th or you can send them to the following address:
MSSL Membership Secretary
Thank you and we look forward to your performances! Please feel free to contact us with any questions
Sincerely,
MSSL Officers

Testing dates for our branch (North Region 2). These are the 10 days where the students will take the theory, ear training, and sight reading exam. Also the period for uploading repertoire and technique recordings and the scanned music of the pieces. Remember to include the front cover of the book.
Branch Honors and Senior Recital
|
|
You can still do practice theory and SR practice tests on line.
You can upload now, so tell your students, if they are ready to do so.
Remember to copy the cover of the book along with the music.
I am now only responsible for Branch Honors. I am no longer chair, because the position no longer exists.
Branch Board will discuss exactly what and how Branch Honors will be chosen. One rule,
however, you must play to get a ribbon. Recitals will be in person.
If you have any information to share regarding CM please let me know! I now know as much as you do.
Your student’s status will continue to be incomplete until they upload the sight reading exam. Remember to click on the media is complete box.
2023 Syllabus for piano is coming! Hopefully there won’t be too many changes as we prepare our students for the 2023 exam!
Thanks!
