Youth Leadership

YAC on Capitol Hill

Special Olympics’ “Capitol Hill Day” is an annual event that brings together Special Olympics athletes, Program leaders and staff, Unified Sports partners, and family members from across the United States and the District of Columbia to advocate for the rights of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14th YAC members, Risha from Marlborough HS and Jake from Natick HS, met with Members of Congress in both the House and Senate and their staffers challenging and inviting our elected officials to partner with them to achieve the goals of expanding our Unified Champion School Program and Inclusive Health Programming.

Are you IN?

The Spread the Word Inclusion campaign is led and continuously re-imagined by our youth activists. We invite your student leaders to rally schools, organizations, and communities to commit to the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Check out these ideas:

  • 3/1/23 - Spread the Word: Inclusion. Or anytime in March!
  • 3/21/23 - Rock Your Socks Day/Sock up for Downs - is a campaign to raise awareness of Down syndrome.

If the specific dates do not work for your school - select a new date in March!

Stay tuned... out YAC will be sending out a list of ideas to implement at your school!

Whole School Engagement

Students want to plunge in their own crazy way?

Students can rally a team or create a school wide challenge to join the effort in raising funds for Special Olympics, MA sports programming.

You can attend one of our planned plunges or, you can create your own fun way to participate. Plunging doesn’t have to include an ocean or lake, it can be a bucket of water, a cold shower, a snow bank, and more!

MASC on March 8th!

Attention Massachusetts Association of Student Council (MASC) Schools:

Be a part of THE event to kick off the MASC Conference - and join us for the 8th annual MASC Polar Plunge where, after fundraising throughout the school year, Plungers take a quick dip at Craigville Beach in support of Special Olympics Massachusetts, the state's largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Costume Contest

No MASC Plunge is complete without a costume contest- and we know how creative you all get when it comes to this competition. Coordinate with your Student Council to plunge in costume, and be sure to take a photo! Upload the photo to Instagram with the hashtag #InclusionRevolution, or email it to Special Olympics MA to qualify for the contest! Check out some of the ideas from last year above!
