Dear Pastoral Assistants of Faith Formation and catechists,
Our archdiocese has launched the Partners in the Gospel initiative in which we are invited to leave the status quo and think about how the church of the future will respond to the challenges present today in many parishes of our archdiocese.
As ministers responsible for evangelization and catechesis, our role in this process of discernment and planning is fundamental to the revitalization of parish life. The Church is a changing institution and now it is up to us to participate directly in making positive changes.
In this month, we celebrate Ash Wednesday on February 22nd, and we begin Lent. Let us take advantage of this liturgical season to live our faith and I offer some guidelines adapted from an article by Sadlier to live Lent as a family:
- Let us reflect on the account in Scripture of Jesus in the desert in which He spent 40 days and nights praying and fasting before beginning His mission.
- It is also a time when we can simplify our lives and give time to penance and improve our works; and finally,
- We can also create a sacred place for our prayer and reflection, utilizing symbols that remind us of the crucial events of Jesus' Passion, Death and Resurrection.
I hope that during this season of Lent, we strengthen our relationship with Jesus and encourage children, young people and parents to do the same.
Carlos Carrillo
Director of Faith Formation.
