VIDEO OF THE MONTH: A Pep Talk from Kid President to You
We all need a little encouragement every now and then. Kid President, knowing this, has put together a video you can play each morning as you wake up or to share with your friend who needs a kick in the right direction. Take a moment and spread some encouragement. "It's everybody's duty to give the world a reason to dance."
"We Don't Work Here For the Money" by Garrett Wheat, PhD
Congratulations to Garrett Wheat, PhD! The T2 Team met Garrett when he was a colleague of ours at the Louisiana LTAP at the Department of Transportation & Development. We watched Garrett grow in his leadership journey and work so hard to achieve his PhD. We could not be prouder of him that he has also written his first book about being a leader in a government agency. The T2 Center has ordered a few copies
for our leadership library, so don’t hesitate to let us know if you would like to loan out a copy. Congratulations Dr. Wheat, we know you have a bright future ahead.
Who wouldn’t work somewhere for the money? Well, when you get down to it, most who work for a governmental agency don’t. At least not as their main necessity. So, if they don’t work here for the money, then why do they? The truth is, governmental agencies attract a unique type of individual, and those individuals who choose to work [here] have multiple reasons with varying degrees of importance. These individuals also have a need for a unique type of supervisor. Because of the reasons an individual works somewhere may differ from the norm, then in order to be an effective supervisor, you must change your leadership approach to meet that need.
"Winning" by Tim S. Grover -Book Reviewed by TLP Cohort #8 Member
This was an extremely motivating book. Tim Grover explains in detail about how to achieve not only the highest levels of success, but also how to stay grounded. He has worked with legendary athletes such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Tom Brady. He also implores the notion that “Winning” is not just a place to get to, but also a spot to try and stay on top, which is almost impossible. Think about winning a Super Bowl, there is a
parade and then as he puts it, you’re back in hell to train for next season. The best road to failure is celebrating too long. This book is a great tool for anyone that needs to be motivated, or someone that tends to rest on their laurels of previous success.
"The art of leadership is saying no, not saying yes. It is very easy to say yes."
~Tony Blair
