"Highlight a Teacher" Campaign: Ms. Susan Hoaglund

Ms. Susan Hoaglund

Ms. Susan Hoaglund, The Greene School 2018 District Teacher of the Year, has been a critical member of The Greene School (TGS) for the past twelve years. As the creator of our initial music program, she designed TGS’s program to reflect the requirements of the charter school curriculum. Ms. Hoaglund not only teaches music, but also teaches German (four levels), and drama.

Last year the University of Rhode Island (URI) approved Ms. Hoaglund to teach the only concurrent enrollment class we offer at TGS, German 101. As a result, students can take this class in either German II or III and receive URI college credits for it.

As a testament to her outstanding teaching skills, TGS’s German students have received gold medals on the National German Exam for four consecutive years.

Ms. Hoaglund is also one of the first two teachers to offer an Early Enrollment Program (EEP) class at TG EEP Survey of Music.

Reflective of her deep commitment to TGS students, Ms. Hoaglund is TGS’s senior class advisor, yearbook advisor, and is the founder and advisor of our National Honor Society. Always having the best interests of our students in mind, she was also responsible for initiating our Senior Class Night and Graduation Ceremony. Read more!

La Sra. Susan Hoaglund, Maestra del Año del Distrito 2018 de The Greene School, ha sido un miembro fundamental de The Greene School (TGS) durante los últimos doce años. Como creadora de nuestro programa de música inicial, diseñó el programa de TGS para reflejar los requisitos del plan de estudios de la escuela autónoma. La Sra. Hoaglund no solo enseña música, sino que también enseña alemán (cuatro niveles) y teatro.

El año pasado, la Universidad de Rhode Island (URI) aprobó a la Sra. Hoaglund para enseñar la única clase de inscripción simultánea que ofrecemos en TGS, Alemán 101. Como resultado, los estudiantes pueden tomar esta clase en alemán II o III y recibir créditos universitarios URI por él.

For the Design Principles of The Responsibility for Learning and The Primacy of Self Discovery

Students of the Honor Roll have begun to discover their abilities, values, passions, and responsibilities for learning; they have undertaken tasks that require perseverance, fitness, craftsmanship, imagination, self-discipline, and significant achievement. Learning is a personal process of discovery, of becoming increasingly more responsible for directing your own personal and collective learning. Learning happens best with emotion, challenge and the requisite support.

El aprendizaje es un proceso personal de descubrimiento, de hacerse cada vez más responsable de orientar el propio aprendizaje personal y colectivo. El aprendizaje ocurre mejor con emoción, desafío y el apoyo necesario.
