New Year celebrations are behind us, and you may be getting your bookkeeping and taxes prepared. Such is a January for a lot of people. February brings us football's big finale and house hunting. Yes, typically after the big game buyers and sellers come out of hibernation and start their journey. This year will be the same. We have had more buyers out this January than a typical January. This is good news for our economy! If 2022 was compared to a dumpster fire, maybe 2023 will be the fire department? Either way, we get what we put in, so let’s make the best of this year.
Get out to some of the Lisle Area Chamber events and meet and mingle. There are multiple events coming up in February. On February 2nd the State of the Village General Membership Luncheon is being held at North American Pizza & Culinary Academy. There are a few multi-chamber events taking place this month. On February 8th there is the Multi-Chamber Heart Health Presentation. Then on February 21st there is the Virtual Multi-Chamber Progressive Networking event. This is networking from your desk, how convenient! If you are looking to network in-person, on February 28th there is a Multi-Chamber Progressive Networking Breakfast. Also, think of attending the LINCT Meeting on February 15th. This is the Chamber’s leads group and free to attend with your membership. If you are not a member, consider joining the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce to keep your business in front of all the great Lisle residents and business community.

AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT
John O'Brien
John O’Brien of American Family Insurance is this month’s featured Ambassador. John has his own insurance agency with American Family Insurance which he started back in 1993. Through offering coverage for home, auto, life, and business insurance his philosophy is to make sure you always know what coverages are available to you and then you can decide what is best for your situation. John recently moved his agency to Lisle from the northside of Chicago to better serve the community he considers home.
In addition to being involved with the Ambassador Committee, John is the Chair of the LINCT group (Leadership In Networking Committee Team). He encourages all members to attend as many LINCT meetings as possible on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. It is a tremendously effective way to establish relationships with other chamber members and help each other grow their businesses. John looks forward to being on the Ambassador Committee, welcoming the new members and letting them know how they can help others while helping themselves.
John and his wife Carri have lived in Steeple Run for 24 years along with current residents Mazie and Harley (2 loving Shiatzu’s). When not working or being available to help out with community activities, John loves the challenge of a nice golf course, rooting on local sports teams and traveling from time to time. A quote from Tony Robbins that has meant a lot to John is “The difference between being one of the best and being the best is only 2 millimeters, but most people don’t know that”. Continued health and success to all!!

2023 Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Information | |

The Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships to high school students graduating in 2023. Awards are based on several considerations that include academic achievement, community involvement, and need.
Application deadline is April 7, 2023 by 4:00 p.m.

Application Requirements
- Applicants must either have an immediate family member who is a member of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce (individually or through corporate affiliation), or they must have a Lisle mailing address.
- Applicants must plan to attend a technical or trade school, business college, or a two- or four-year college or university.
- The application packet must be fully and legibly completed.

January has been a very busy month. The Multi-Chamber State of the County Business Expo & Luncheon held on January 18th with speaker DuPage County Chair, Deb Conroy. Chairwoman Conroy was elected in 2022 as the first female Chair of the DuPage County Board. She served in the Illinois State House of Representatives from 2012 until 2022. In addition, Ms. Conroy moderated a panel featuring Choose DuPage President and CEO, Greg Bedalov, and from the Economic Development Alliance, Lynn LaPlante. At the luncheon, 12 Chambers participated and there were 18 exhibitors with 200 chamber members in attendance.
Multi-Chamber business expos are a great way to showcase your business to other businesses. The next Multi-Chamber event will be held in March and will be the Economic Outlook luncheon and business expo with a guest speaker from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. There will be an opportunity for you to have an exhibitor table at this event but we are limited on expo tables so they are offered on a first come first basis. Watch your emails for the event information.
We also have a Multi-Chamber Virtual Progressive Networking event coming up on February 21st. I have heard directly from our Members that the virtual events are also beneficial to their businesses. There is also a Multi-Chamber Progressive Networking Breakfast taking place on February 28th. You have asked and the Lisle Area Chamber is offering events that are both virtual and in-person.
