Strengthening Connections
From the President
Cynthia Eversole

How fortunate we are to be music educators. We are fortunate that we could gather in friendship, music, and growth at the 2023 CMEA Clinic/Conference: Strengthening Connections.

After 4 days of gathering together, we can reflect on everything learned and gained from the hard work of all, including our attendees.

2023 is a year that we returned to a perceived normal after so many adjustments these past few years. How do we know? The engagement tells us so. We had 1390 registered attendees at the conference this year. This indicates that we are back on the right path from the pandemic and this is a reason to celebrate!

Congratulations to ALL of our performing ensembles and directors that model exceptional teaching in their schools. The kids are why we come together and why we smile. We see and hear how hard these ensembles worked to be at CMEA. We extend a special thank you to our invited ensembles that performed at the opening session and the exhibits. Thank you for bringing your students, parents, administrators, bus drivers, and energy to the conference.

Our presenters were received with open arms. Council chairs did a wonderful job hearing the membership and booking sessions appropriately. Tia Fuller, our keynote, coached us all on the visualization of one’s journey to success. It is wonderful to see what Colorado students, such as Tia, are capable of tomorrow. We hope you complete our conference evaluation link so that we may reflect and revise future plans.

Much gratitude is extended to Bill Kohut and his conference registration team, Margie Camp for keeping everyone in the communication loop, Michelle Ewer for a Tri-M Day that exceeds all expectations, Tom Bruszewski for equipment management to ensure everything was covered, Rick Shaw for the successful Exhibits, and Andrea Meyer for her work with our retired members.

Did you know that you can purchase CMEA Solo and Ensemble Awards even if you did not attend a CHSAA Solo and Ensemble Festival?  If you hosted a regional Solo and Ensemble Festival or a county of district festival you can still order CMEA Solo and Ensemble medals.

Have you participated in a CHSAA Large Group Festival and put off ordering the award plaque?  You can still order plaques for past festivals.

Did you have students in All-State Jazz Band, All-State Jazz Choir, All-State Orchestra, or the Elementary, Middle School, or High School All-State Choirs?  If you did this might be a great time to honor these students with an All-State Medal.  You can order these medals for your students and have them shipped directly to your home address.  This is a great way to recognize your students for their accomplishment.

Have you thought about stocking up on Solo and Ensemble Medals, All-State Medals, or Clinic/Conference Performing Group medals?  This might be a good time to spend remain budget dollars to stock up on these medals before your funds run out.

All award orders can be placed by Clicking Here.  All transactions can be completed on-line, including credit card payment.

Do you have questions regarding CMEA awards?  You can direct those questions to CMEA Awards Manager- Ken Anderson at awardscmeaonline@gmail.comoffer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
