Q&A With College Advisory Board Member Melissa Leamon

Q: What inspired you to get involved and support FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing as an advisory board member?

A: I was inspired to get involved because I am a graduate of the nursing school, class of 2004, and I wanted an opportunity to give back to the college that made my successes possible.

Q: What do you admire most about our students?

A: I admire the nursing students at FAU for their dedication to becoming a nurse. Nursing school is not easy regardless of where you attend, but when you must balance work and family responsibilities like many people do, it can be even more challenging. Stay committed to the BSN — you won’t regret it.

Q: What is your hope for the future of the College?

A: My hope for the future of the College of Nursing is that we can create some deeper collaborations with local hospitals that will result in beneficial clinical experiences and job opportunities for our students.

Q: Could you share some of your professional and personal interests?

A: Professionally, I enjoy celebrating nursing as a profession and reminding our nurses that what they do each day directly impacts a person. Past patients still talk about how you helped them during your shift. Nurses think of it as doing our job, but for our patients, we are making deep, meaningful impacts. I love each opportunity I get to read patients’ letters and celebrate the art of nursing with our teams. Personally, I enjoy being outside, whether that is at the pool, golf course or visiting dog-friendly restaurants with my two dogs and fiancé.
