ArtSpark Grant Session

The Acadiana Center for the Arts (ACA) grants administration team will advise, and assist with directives on how to apply for project funds directed at furthering your art.

Join in 2-4 p.m., at NUNU collective and bring along your laptop and/or pen and paper so as to begin work on a draft application. There is no reason why you cannot apply for and be awarded a grant for the funds needed to see your idea through to fruition.

La Cuisine Martiniquaise

Welcome the return of Martinique artists Jean-Luc Toussaint and Vanessa Guy by joining them for dinner 7-9 p,m,, Thursday, Feb. 9 at NUNU collective. Toussaint and Guy, who in 2019 traveled with the street performance troupe Aso Mawon Matnik to Louisiana, return for a special Feb. 10-13 Mask Making Workshop. La Cuisine Martiniquaise is an opportunity to meet and share time with these two special visitors.

Toussaint and Guy will prepare, cook and serve one of Martinique's signature dish, Colombo de Crevettes and Rhum. Colombo, a blend of French, West and East Indian spices, combines turmeric, brown mustard seed, hot pepper, coriander, West Indian bay leaf, thyme and black peppercorn. Carnival Martinque style

Reveal your inner self this Mardi Gras by creating and wearing your own Martinique-style mask. NUNU Arts and Culture Collective welcomes the return of Martinique artists Jean Luc Toussaint and Vanessa Guy, who will lead this special 4-day cultural exchange experience.

The workshop takes place Feb. 10-13 and the cost $450. For NUNU collective members the cost is $150. Included in the cost are dinner on the first night, and breakfast and lunch during the next three workshop days. Toussaint and Guy are members of street performance troupe "Aso Mawon Matnik," and with their guidance, participants will explore the traditions and history of mask making as a means of self expression.

The workshop is supported in part by a 2023 Louisiana Office of Cultural Development Projects Grant and facilitated by NUNU Arts and Culture Collective and Saint Luc French Immersion and Cultural Campus.

Coeur de Terre - Miracle Morning

Healing Plant Workshop

Join Martinique Artist Vanessa Guy, 9-11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14 at NUNU collective for breakfast and a Miracle Morning Healing Plant Ritual that includes 20-minute breathing and relaxation exercises followed by a 20-minute talk. Immediately following, participants come together for tea and a light breakfast. The cost is $15. La Table Chinois celebrates the New Year

Hop on over to NUNU Arts and Culture Collective 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 for a 2023 Lunar New Year celebration honoring the rabbit. This DICI table is hosted by NUNU board member Dr. Dan Lui. The intent of the table is to share and experience present day and traditional Chinese practices.

La Table Chinois is a free event and is open to the public. It is sponsored in part by the Lafayette Chinese American Association.

La Table Kreyol - 2-4 p.m., Feb. 11. Louisiana Creole - kouri vini - language focused gathering, in house at NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, and virtual via ZOOM meeting platform. Free. In support of ongoing activities by the Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne Lipan Apache, the Indigenous Cultural Heritage Table moves to Vermilionville noon-2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25. While there, information on the DICI event will be provided to those in attendance and the general public. The intent of the table is to not only inform, but to provide opportunity to network and partner. The Indigenous Cultural Heritage Table returns to NUNU collective in March.

Cyanotypes

by Ralph J. Schexnaydre Jr. and friends

Cyanotypes, produced by photographer Ralph J. Schexnaydre Jr. remain on exhibit throughout February in Galerie le coin coin. Also exhibited in Galerie du papier are completed cyanotypes by students on Jan. 7 during a cyanotype workshop conducted by Schexnaydre.

Cyanotype, is one of the earliest photographic processes dating back to the 1840s. Made by exposing to sunlight a chemically treated paper or cloth upon which all variety of objects, including the often preferred botanicals, are placed.

Galerie des deux bayous features works by Doug Nehrbass

Work by artist Doug Nehrbass remains featured throughout February in Galerie des deux bayous, a salon-type gallery and marketplace located at NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. Nehrbass' ethereal landscapes and dramatic skyscapes are build from initial sketches and gradually developed into finished painting. Meet the artist during the second Saturday Open House, along with other exhibiting and selling artists.

Art Business Café - 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12. Meet Jahi McKay of Narrative 4 and become one of 12 lucky storytellers who will directly learn how to organize participants, identify goals, and establish trust by way of sharing stories.

Art Business Café is a second Sunday meet-up that provides member artists, cultural workers, and torchbearers to interact with one another for the purpose of sharing knowledge and information. On occasion, Art Biz Cafe' features guest speakers or workshops.

Socrates Café - 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19. Third Sunday gathering of inquiring minds who share coffee and explore philosophic topics using the Socratic Method of questioning. All are invited, as are all thoughts.

Socrates cafes are conducted throughout the world as means to encourage respectful discussion. The Socrates Café model was created by philosopher Christopher Phillips.
