A Message from the Chief Wellness Officer | |
|
Hi Everyone,
February is American Heart Month. This is a great time to practice heart healthy habits to keep our own hearts strong, both for ourselves and for those we care about. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the #1 cause of death among Americans. Every year, more than 805,000 Americans have a heart attack episode; almost 75% of those are first-time sufferers. However, more than 80% of all CVD is preventable. Read more about the signs and symptoms of heart disease and follow these preventative tips:
- Ask your provider for a heart screening.
- Complete 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity every week.
- Eat at least five fruits and vegetables every day.
- Take a few minutes of time out for stress relief when you start to feel tense; check out the Just Breathe website.
- Avoid tobacco.
-
Take and give a dose of vitamin G everyday.
- Sleep at least seven hours a night.
- If you drink alcohol, limit consumption to one standard drink a day.
Read more on ways to prevent heart disease.
February 11 also marked the beginning of Random Acts of Kindness week. I encourage all of you to take and give daily doses of Vitamin G that week to boost your endorphins, improve your mood and share kindness. It could be an uplifting note of gratitude to someone who deserves it, a little dark chocolate treat, engaging in a fun social activity or just counting your blessings every day.
Fond and well regards,
