Dr. David Travis as the 11th President

Great Lake State Weekend 2024

The LSSU Alumni Association is thrilled to announce Great Lake State Weekend taking place October 18-19, 2024! Plan to join us for a memorable homecoming celebration that includes exciting Laker hockey games, Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame ceremony, 1974 and 1994 Laker Hockey anniversary celebrations of the 1974 and 1994 National Championship teams, Tailgate Party, and much more!


As part of this year's Great Lake State Weekend, we will be celebrating the 50th and 30th anniversaries of 1974 and 1994 Laker Hockey National Championship teams! More information will be coming soon including registration for members of the 1974 and 1994 hockey teams. It will be a great reunion weekend!

Superior Give-A-Thon is a time of rallying support and encouraging yearly gifts to Lake Superior State University from alumni, friends, faculty and staff. Help us raise $20,000 in support for initiatives like the Fund for LSSU, Laker Club, and the Superior Simulation Center. Or you can support the designation of your choice. The Superior Give-A-Thon runs from February 19 through May 4, 2024.

Lake Superior State University Launches New Cybersecurity Program


Lake Superior State University (LSSU) proudly announces the launch of its Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity to begin on August 26th, 2024. This new and innovative program provides students with a unique combination of skills in criminal justice, computer science and computer networking. The curriculum underscores the systematic administration and design of systems, aiming to shield against cyberattacks, facilitate data recovery, and provide essential information crucial for the investigation and prosecution of cybercrime offenders. “In shaping this curriculum, we did extensive research of cybersecurity programs across the state of Michigan,” said Professor Herb Henderson, the Chair of the School of Criminal Justice, Fire Science, and EMS. “We identified programs that amalgamated computer science and information technology with business, military science, or engineering. However, our program is uniquely designed for students who seek a strong foundation in the fields of investigation and law enforcement.” Read More.

Lake Superior State University Receives Generous Donation Of Doosan Collaborative Robots From Dynamic Machine Of Detroit


Lake Superior State University (LSSU) was delighted to host Greg Sandler, Founder and CEO of Dynamic Machine of Detroit, and LSSU alumnus Steve Essenberg. The occasion was marked by the generous donation of two Doosan M1013 Collaborative Robots to LSSU’s Robotics Lab, valued at approximately $75,000. Read More.

Lake Superior State University is now displaying a very unique art show that includes work from hundreds of students.



For the next few weeks, more than 300 unique pieces will be available for viewing at the LSSU library. The exhibit opened Feb. 22.


Now in its third year, the tiny art show allows LSSU students and community members alike to create a small piece of art that can fit on a 2 inch by 2 inch canvas. The annual event has grown since it began — more than quadrupling in size since its inception — with more than 250 participants. Read More.

Lauren Niemiec '21, has been on an amazing professional journey since graduation. She kicked off her career with a summer internship at Millbrook Revolutionary Engineering (now UTAC). Fast forward to today, Lauren is making waves as a Controls Test Engineer at UTAC, operating dynamometer test cells and testing cutting-edge e-axles, e-motors, and drivetrain components.


And that's not all! Lauren's dedication and expertise have earned her a promotion and the prestigious "UTAC Way Award" for the third quarter. She's also one of four incredible women internally recognized for Women in Engineering Day at UTAC!

Jon Jensen '88, has been appointed to Chief Executive Officer at Metal Powder Products LLC (“MPP”), a Mill Point Capital portfolio company and leading manufacturer of custom-engineered powdered metal and metal injection molding (“MIM”) technologies.


Jon brings more than 30 years of global manufacturing experience to MPP. Prior to joining MPP, he served as President and CEO of NAI, leading the business through its operational and financial transformation. His extensive background includes several key executive roles at L-com Global Connectivity, Group Dekko, Alcoa, ITT, and Eaton, where he had a strong track record of mobilizing and collaborating with his teams to achieve key objectives rapidly. Jim Baldwin '96, has been appointed by the Davison (MI) City Council to take over as police chief after the retirement of Don Harris. A veteran of law enforcement of more than 25 years, Baldwin said he started his career at the City of Sault Saint Marie in the fall of 1996. Read More.

The Lake Superior State University track and field program competed at the 2024 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend, hosted by Saginaw Valley University. Read More.

Laker Pride for your Ride!


Lake Superior State University fans, alumni, and friends can display their Laker pride with the LSSU affinity license plate. The Michigan Secretary of State's Office offers specialty fund-raising license plates, including state-supported universities. $25 from the sale of each new license plate goes to the LSSU Alumni Association and we receive $10 for each renewal. Proceeds fund various alumni programs and services.

On the Road with Laker Basketball

Local Laker Basketball Alumni recently sponsored the team meal as both Laker Men's and Women's Basketball teams finished up their last road trip of the regular season in Grand Rapids to take on Grand Valley and Davenport. A special thank you to all the alumni who came out to show their support!
