2024 Annual Meeting

Thank you to the forty-five (45) members who attended the Friends of the Bulverde Area Rural Library District Annual Meeting on January 27, 2024. FOL President, Mary Lu Zellers, presided over the meeting. The minutes of the 2023 Annual Meeting were approved, there was a review of the 2023 financial statement and FOL activities for the year, and Mary Lu discussed the importance of reporting volunteer hours. The Board recognized the Electronic Communications Committee--Linda Quintero, Lois Blankenburg, and Jodi Perez--as the Volunteers of the Year. Merri DiPasquale was also recognized for her volunteer work cleaning and organizing the Friends' portion of the Library pantry. Mary Lu thanked all the committee chairs for their hard work during the year and recognized retiring directors, Anne-Marie Kimbell, Susan Shapiro, and Jo Ellen Towry, and Deborah Halsted who resigned due to a move to Fredericksburg.

Linda Quintero of the Nominating Committee introduced the slate of nominees for the 2024 Board of Directors. There were no nominees submitted from the floor, and the members present voted the following by acclamation: Joe DiPasquale, Betty Jo (Jody) Engelman, Erik Henchal, Jodi Perez, and Catherine (Cat) Reid. Board officer positions will be confirmed at the February board meeting.

Rob Lerner, Library Technology Director, gave a very informative presentation on the Library's Landscape Committee and the many projects planned to update the landscape around the Library. He stressed that the Butterfly Garden would remain in its present location.

DORIS VILLARREAL

We are missing a dear friend and charter member of the Friends of the Library, Doris Villarreal. Doris passed away on January 25, 2024 at the age of 95. Doris was an enthusiastic supporter of the Library and the Friends. She enjoyed traveling, talking about her family, and her childhood history. She was an avid reader and belonged to two of the Library's book clubs. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church, 230 Shepherd Hill Drive, Canyon Lake, TX 78133. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church, the Friends of the Bulverde Area Rural Library District, or HOPE Hospice in New Braunfels.

Solar Eclipse Glasses

We have some good news for you if you've been intending to purchase eclipse glasses for the upcoming April 8 solar eclipse, but just haven't gotten around to it. Eclipse glasses are on their way to the Mammen Family Public Library. The public will be able to purchase the glasses, but the Friends will have a pair available for free for each of our members. This is just a small thank you for helping the Friends support the Library. Details on how to secure you glasses will follow soon.

The Friends Board of Directors will meet at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 26 at the Library. We invite you to join us for our first Board meeting of 2024.
