PMINYC Celebrate’s Black History Month:

Honoring Legacy, Embracing Action

February marks Black History Month, a time to remember the pivotal contributions of Black PMs who have shaped our field with their resilience, innovation, and leadership. This month, we not only honor their legacy, but embrace action to build a more inclusive future for all.

Be sure to check out our new Community Voices section featuring Christopher Joseph, PMINYC VP of Technology and Board Member. Chris shares his journey in project management and offers his insightful approach to working with others. Learn from his experiences and join the conversation!

Together, let's spark meaningful dialogue by engaging in thoughtful discussions about diversity, equity and inclusion within project management. Reflect on your own biases, share best practices and explore ways to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all!

COMMUNITY VOICES

Meet Christopher Joseph, PMINYC VP of Technology and Board Member:

"As a man of color in leadership roles in private sector and city government, I was usually the only one in a room. This has been my state of being since I was 20 and have always been comfortable in my space while never losing sight of my heritage or ethnicity.  I work to find common ground with anyone and, thankfully due to my somewhat diverse upbringing, have found success more often than not. Although the color of a person's skin and the race assigned to them still has its pitfalls in our world, I firmly believe we should all look deeper at what we bring to the table as humans and professionals--may we all continue to thrive in this wonderful field of project management. Happy Black History month."

PMINYC Volunteers recently had the opportunity to serve as judges in the Future City Competition, which encompassed three key segments: Essay, Model, and Presentation. The competition serves as an interactive educational program that spans various subjects, bringing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts to life. Annually, over 45,000 students from the US, Canada, China, Egypt, and Nigeria participate, culminating in the National Competition scheduled for February 2024 in Washington D.C.

This year's theme, "Electrify Your Future," prompted students to devise solutions for a citywide sustainability challenge. Their task was to create a city powered entirely by electricity, derived from sources that prioritize the health and safety of both citizens and the environment.

Witnessing the creativity and dedication of these students, we are confident that the future is in capable hands!

Thank you to Diane Chan, Arvin Andrada + Judges, and Students!
