Digging into the Wood Wide Web
As foresters we spend a great deal of time looking up, to evaluate forest composition, structure, and growth. But the story below ground is equally interesting! Tune into the latest episode as we explore the complex interactions between soils, nutrients, water, roots, and a host of other flora and fauna with Dr. Justine Karst at the University of Alberta and Dr. J. Marty Kranabetter with the British Colombia Ministry of Forests.

Meet our new SilviCast podcast editor: Joe Rogers
Behind the scenes at SilviCast, Joe Rogers joined the team as our new audio editor in December 2023. Rogers graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2006 with a degree in business administration and joined Sentry Insurance that same year. He was infected with the podcasting bug in 2009 and has been editing and producing podcasts and videos ever since. After 15 years with Sentry, he left in 2021 to pursue freelance projects. When he's not spending time with his patient wife, Kelly, or curious 7-year-old, Dane, you can find him playing tabletop miniature games, cooking ethnic cuisines, administering Salesforce orgs, hiking (quite moderate) inclines, designing games, or reading just about anything.

Did Smokey Bear Get it Wrong?
Smokey Bear says, “Only YOU can prevent forest fires!” But is all forest fire bad? Many of us are aware that prescribed burning is crucial for restoring and maintaining native prairie ecosystems. Forest managers know that fire is just as important for sustaining forest ecosystems. Join Michael Tiller, UW-Stevens Point assistant professor of forest ecology and fire management, as we learn about fire’s role in Wisconsin’s forests.
