FEBRUARY 2024

FAREWELL TO DANNY!

After 4+ years of serving as a teaching pro on Timberhill Tennis Club's talented staff, Danny Schwartz is moving to his next adventure. He'll be taking his talents to the east coast, moving to Boston, Massachusetts and teaching tennis at Boston University. We are really sad to lose Danny, as he has become an integral part of our junior and adult programs at the club. Danny is another homegrown teaching pro, having made a career transition 5 years ago in an effort to follow two of his passions, coaching and tennis! Under the mentorship of Colby, Sam, and Hunter, Danny successfully navigated his USPTA certification and developed into an outstanding on-court instructor, leading several components of the Junior Development Program, as well as the adult Parks & Rec program. We know he'll be an asset to the Boston tennis community, and we hope everyone gets a chance to say goodbye and thanks before he leaves Corvallis later this month.

2024 TTC COMMITTEES

The Timberhill Tennis Club Board of Directors met on January 22 and built its Committees for 2024. Did you know that you don't need to be a Board member to participate in these Committees? If there is an area of interest to you and you'd like to get more active in the club governance, please consider volunteering for a Committee--it's a great way to get involved! Committees include:

Bylaws & Policies

Capital Improvements

Facilities & Landscape

Human Resources

Membership & Marketing

Programs

Contact Hunter if you are interested in any of these, and we can fill you in and try to get you involved!

NEEDED: LIGHTWEIGHT, COLLAPSIBLE WHEELCHAIR

We're looking for a lightweight, collapsible wheelchair that the club can have on hand to assist with evacuating any players from the buildings that have had on-court injuries. Hopefully we won't need it, but it would be a nice thing to have on hand. Does anyone have something like this that isn't being used? If so, and you're willing to donate it to the club, please contact Hunter to arrange it. Thanks!

2024 Head Boom MP and Team L

The new 2024 Boom line of rackets launches on March 7, but we have the demos now if you want to try these out. You'll see Coco Gauff and others using this frame on tour later this spring, and the addition of Auxetic 2.0 in the handle promises to give a great update to this already popular line of rackets. These rackets are notable for giving a player easy access to power, but with a really plush and comfortable feel. The MP is a good choice for the 3.5-4.0 player looking for extra pop in their shot while maintaining control. The Team L version is slightly lighter and is better for players who aren't as strong or just want more power with a lighter, whippier feel. We've already taken a couple of pre-orders on these, so come playtest one today!

From the Clubhouse

I hope everybody survived the ice storm without too much damage to their property. Storms like that can be tricky around the club--our roofs hold a LOT of snow/ice during those storms, and when it decides to come down, it all comes down at once and it's like a bomb going off. We're seeing the last of the ice pileups melt away, and the only damage the club seemed to suffer was a few feet of bent gutter, which should be repaired shortly. We were able to keep the facility open safely during the storm, and I was surprised at the level of activity despite the crazy conditions.

Our HVAC project continues, though the delivery of our heat pump units was delayed by the winter weather. We have gotten most of the electrical prep done at this point, and when the units arrive (hopefully mid-February) it shouldn't take more than a couple of days to get things connected, inspected, and running. After January's cold snap, we're really looking forward to seeing this system in action.

Lastly, with Danny Schwartz leaving our teaching staff, and Sarah Forester in the midst of her NCAA season, we are undergoing an active search for a full-time and part-time teaching pro to add to our staff. We've started to get a few candidates already, and will notify everyone when we've selected our new pros. This should help alleviate the lesson backlogs and allow us to expand our adult class offerings as we move into the spring months. Stay tuned!
