Grief 101: Cultivating Grief & Literacy on the Cape & Islands
Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 at 5:30pm
Grief is a natural response to loss, yet many bereaved people report feeling misunderstood and abandoned by their friends and communities due to a lack of education about the needs of the grieving.
We’re starting the conversation with Grief 101, a presentation that covers “the basics” of grief: what it is, how it impacts our brains and bodies, and how we can support people in our lives who are going through it.
This program is funded by the Network of the National Library of Medicine and is presented by Sharing Kindness.

We Want Your Family Recipes!
Be a part of Sturgis Library's April art display!
We are gathering family stories and photographs for a project inspired by Crystal Wilkinson's memoir and cookbook, Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts.
Family recipes connect people across generations and great distances. They reflect our cultural heritage and the relationships we hold most dear.
For this project, we are asking Sturgis Library patrons to share the family recipe that is most meaningful to them. Participants will make copies of family photos and recipes and use art materials to create collages that will be displayed throughout the library during the month of April.
To participate, gather your photos and recipes and sign up for the craft night on Tuesday, March 11th at 5:30. If you cannot make the craft night but would still like to participate, email Gabrielle at reference@sturgislibrary.org.

Start a Game Night Tradition!
Borrow one of our beautiful new games and start a game night tradition with family or friends.
During the COVID lockdown people rediscovered the fun of board games, and enthusiasm for them has continued ever since.
Our new collection includes games for adults, young adults, and older children:
Did you know that noted author Kurt Vonnegut invented a board game? When Vonnegut was working on his second book, Cat's Cradle, he decided to supplement his income by, among other things, inventing a board game. Though it never sold, it was recently rediscovered and published. Kurt Vonnegut's GHQ (General Headquarters) is a fast paced strategic two-player battle game, and you can check it out here at Sturgis Library! Many thanks to his daughter Edie for donating a copy to the Library.
Games circulate for two weeks. They need to picked up at and returned to the Library. Questions? Contact Lucy or Christy at 508-362-6636.
