Minnesota Compass and Wilder Research staff share what this means for all of us, why the data are important, and what we can do to make sure more public data are not lost.

Executive orders and Minnesota's immigrant families

Executive orders on immigration enforcement and birthright citizenship are affecting Minnesotans as schools, agencies, and organizations review procedures and develop protocols to protect the rights of immigrants and their children. Compass data show that 1 in 5 children in Minnesota is a child of an immigrant. This fact was shared by Pioneer Press reporters Frederick Melo and Imani Cruzen in their article "Schools try to reassure students, parents amid stepped up federal immigration enforcement." Duluth News Tribune's Mary Murphy used the same statistic in her article "Minnesota immigrant advocates/lawyers brace for possible end of birthright citizenship."
