A message from Governor Liz Glowka:

Happy February, Golden West Region!

Soroptimist Sisters in the Camino Real Region has suffered unbelievable losses and we need and are standing strong with them. Many of us in the Golden West Region are also suffering greatly as we see our friends and family losing their homes and communities. Please help when and how you can to aid them through this terrible time.

Clubs continue to work reviewing and judging their Live Your Dream applications. The deadlines are past, and you all should have submitted your Region candidate to the LYDA committee at this point.

Celebrating your club awardees is so rewarding. Please consider a collaboration of clubs in your area to make the event very special to these wonderful women. And please continue to follow up with them so they know we continue to be supportive. Follow up, as with anything, is key to strengthening our impact through all our projects and Dream programs.

The Spring Conference committee and the Board of Directors are hard at work to produce a special and rewarding Conference. We all look forward to gathering with friends and sharing our Club achievements and adventures. We also have some special guests that will reinforce the impact of Soroptimist International. Stay tuned for the Call to Conference.

As always, please get in touch with any of the board members and your region committees for assistance during the year. We are here to serve and are ready to help in any way needed.

Let us all look forward to growing in the glow.

Governor Liz

How does your Soroptimist Glow?

Hello Soroptimists and friends,

Since July, the GWR Ad hoc Online Club Chartering Committee has been diligently working to recruit potential members for our region’s first online Soroptimist club. We've utilized various communication methods, including News Blast articles, Fall Meeting presentations, outreach to former Soroptimists and Venture Club members, social media platforms, President Roundtables, and a Fall Recruitment Contest. To date, these promotional efforts have resulted in a combined total of 552 informational document downloads. I view these downloads as promising “seeds” planted about the option of online club membership, and I am confident many of these seeds will sprout.

I have been communicating with one prospective member who is now actively spreading the word about Soroptimist online club membership in her community of Taos, New Mexico, through a newly created informational package. I am confident that many more individuals elsewhere would be interested in learning more about the flexibility of online club membership, which can fit into their busy lifestyles and geographical constraints.

Perhaps you have previously invited individuals to join your in-person club but were turned down for reasons that could be addressed through online club membership. Rather than closing the door on a recruitment opportunity, consider offering this GWR Online Club Informational Package, which provides details about another way to experience the joy of Soroptimist membership. Share the package with your family, friends, and colleagues who share your passion for the Soroptimist mission but whose circumstances may be better suited for online club membership.

If you have any questions or new recruitment ideas, please feel free to contact me. Remember, teamwork makes the dream work!

January Initiative Focus: Human Trafficking

Once a quarter, we will focus on an obstacle that women and girls face on their path to formal education and economic empowerment. There is still time to get involved in this quarter's focus.

For January, we will focus on projects that increase access to education for women or girls who have experienced trafficking. January 11 is recognized globally as the International Day of Human Trafficking Awareness, making January a meaningful time to learn more about this critical issue and how Soroptimists can help through the Soroptimists UpliftHER initiative.
