Message from the Vice Provost for Faculty Success

Greetings Mean Green Colleagues,

Welcome back to the new semester. In celebration of Black History Month, UNT and the surrounding Denton area are hosting many events to commemorate the history and achievements of our Black community. One of my favorites is the Quakertown Park Walking Tour, which highlights the difficult and inspiring history of this important neighborhood.

For the spring term, I look forward to seeing our new Faculty Learning Communities continue to take shape and to the great progress our faculty and administrators are making in updating their academic workload guidelines to ensure transparency and clarity. You can learn more about the UNT Academic Workload Initiative on our website. Your COACHE Steering Committee is engaging faculty input on their focus areas, and the COACHE Tenure and Promotion Subcommittee is collecting faculty input about the clarity of P&T expectations. There are two ways to share your feedback: complete a survey or contribute to an interactive Padlet. All responses can be completed anonymously.

Finally, awards season is in full swing, and UNT has much to celebrate. Congratulations to College of Music associate professors Scott Tixier and Nick Finzer, who contributed to winning works recognized at the 67th Grammy Awards, and to this year’s recipients of the UNT Faculty Senate’s faculty awards, who we spotlight in this month’s newsletter. More Salute to Faculty Excellence award winners are being named every day, so stay tuned — we'll announce all the 2025 honorees in our March newsletter.

From our nest to yours, have a wonderful month of classes and endeavors.
