CHR in the community

CHR had such a great and productive time at the Volunteer Expo presented by CFI

CHR was voted one of the community's favorite nonprofits! Thank you so much!

CHR's Executive Director Nicole McHale at CFI's Leadership Class

The Charitable Foundation of the Islands is proud to support the launch of the 100+ Women Who Care Sanibel Captiva Giving Circle. Clair Beckmann spoke on behalf of CHR, and because of her moving remarks, we are proud to announce we are the first recipient of the $10k grant.

State of the Islands: CHR's Executive Director asked to speak & represent CHR!

Huge Thank you to the State of the Islands, Sancap Chamber, Staff, and community!

A very big warm and heartfelt THANK YOU to Laura Deburce and her touching video

Laura DeBruce’s documentary ‘On Sanibel: Hurricane Diaries’ had a private showing last evening as a benefit for Community Housing and Resources.

The story shows the strength of our community after a terrible storm.

Affordable housing makes living on Sanibel possible for people who otherwise may not be able to, creates diversity on the island, and most importantly, gives a “hand up” to many deserving people.

Second Job Reminder!

The CHR Board is providing an opportunity for our residents and supports the needs of our business community with the option to obtain a second job on Sanibel or at a Sanibel-based business located on Captiva. We have modified the CHR rental agreement to not incur an increase in rent from the income resulting from the second job. This allows our residents to grow their financial stability and support economic recovery for the businesses on the Island.

Please note: To qualify for housing CHR residents will need to maintain a full-time position on Sanibel Island or at a Sanibel Island-based business. Unless otherwise stated in the resident's lease.

"Be an Eco-Warrior, not an Eco-Worrier" It is very important to be conscious of how we throw away used and unwanted items. There is a Recycling Center on Dunlop Road across from the Library. Click the link to find out more information on how to recycle properly!

Recycling tips

Every community has different recycling “rules” based on their sorting process and sale of recycled materials.

Here are some tips to make recycling more efficient at Lake Palms:

·       Flatten all boxes - even the small ones

·       Clean containers - no food scraps or stains

·       No foam, no plastic bags (some stores will recycle these)

·       Empty bags into the bins. Recyclables will commingle and save space
