Demystifying Carshare in the Twin Cities

Join a free webinar with Move Minneapolis and HOURCAR, the Minnesota non-profit carshare organization, with a panel of experienced carshare users to explore the ways carshare can meet your transportation needs.

Carshare provides the benefits of having access to a car without the hassles, maintenance, and costs of actual ownership. This sounds great, but how does carshare work for individuals, residential properties, and businesses in the Twin Cities? How can you find and book a car when you need one? How much can you save versus owning a car?

Continuing the Transportation Summit Conversation Via Podcast

On the heels of Move Minneapolis’ recent Transportation Summit on the topic “Exploring How Businesses Can Survive and Thrive Through Construction”, Streets.mn podcast producer Parker Seamon followed up with some of the panelists and invited them to chat about the topic.

As old and crumbling infrastructure in Minneapolis is replaced, there are opportunities to rebuild with improved safety features and multimodal infrastructure. While the improvements enhance communities when finished, the lengthy construction process is often a heavy burden for the business along the route.

On this podcast episode, host Ian R Buck speaks about the Summit with Move Minneapolis Outreach Manager Catherine Windyk, Recovery Bike Shop co-owner Seth Stattmiller, Matt Kazinka from the Lake Street Council, and Sam O’Connell from the Metropolitan Council. Guests share their experiences going through construction and info on some of the programs and initiatives that are available to make the transition easier.

Metro micro Expansion

The small white buses that have been crisscrossing North Minneapolis since 2022 can now be seen on the streets of Roseville and Woodbury. Metro micro is an on-demand shared ride microtransit service with door-to-door service in three communities: Metro micro expanded to Roseville and Woodbury on January 1st. Rides must begin and end within each of the three zones, and transfers are available to regular bus routes.

Like ride-share services such as Uber or Lyft, riders book rides on an app and request a pickup and drop-off within each zone. Fares are $2.50 and $3.50 during rush hours (TAP, senior, and youth fares are $1). Pay with cash, Go-To Card (including TAP cards, Metropass, College Pass or Student Pass), or via the Metro Transit app.

Metro micro can help connect Roseville residents with the METRO A Line bus rapid transit (BRT), and Woodbury riders with the new METRO Gold Line BRT that is opening in March.

How micro Works:

  1. Download the Metro micro app, or call 651-602-1170
  2. Book a ride within Micro zone
  3. Watch in real-time for bus location and pick-up time
