As we finish the first month of 2025, it is gearing up to be a very busy time for the Village Board and Village Government. Work on the 2025-2026 budget continues; meetings with department heads to review their budget requests will take place this month. As a reminder, the public hearing on the 2025-2026 budget will be held on March 26, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The tentative assessment roll was filed with the Village Clerk on February 3, 2025, and the Village Board will be sitting as the Board of Assessment Review on February 18, 2025, for Grievance Day. More details on Grievance Day can be found later in the newsletter.
The Village is expecting a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain tomorrow morning, which is forecast to transition to plain rain tomorrow afternoon. At this point, recycling remains scheduled for pickup and Village offices will operate normally tomorrow. Any changes to scheduled operations will be sent out through the Everbridge Alerts System, as well as through email and social media.
On January 8, 2025, Local Law 2 of 2025 was adopted by the Village Board to update certain provisions regarding trash pickup. Residents are now permitted to use garbage cans with a capacity of up to 45 gallons; the cans should weigh no more than 70 pounds and be equipped with a cover. Finally, bags are required to be placed in containers; please do not leave plastic bags curbside. The changes were implemented to allow garbage to be collected using the tippers on the back of each truck, which will reduce workplace injuries as well as reduce instances of animals tearing garbage bags and causing litter to be strewn around.
At the January 20, 2025, Village Board Meeting, it was announced that the zoning petition submitted for 1 Half Moon Bay Drive was withdrawn. The property owner has determined not to move forward with the project at this time. As the property is zoned Light Industrial, and further than 1500 feet from the Croton-Harmon Train Station, residential development cannot occur on the property under the existing zoning code. Any further developments regarding this property will be shared when available.
A mailer, the Croton Connections, will soon be sent out to all households in the Village with various reminders on code regulations and ways for residents to stay connected to Village happenings. Please be on the lookout for this mailing!

Early Voting Information for February 11th Special Election
Early voting for the February 11th Special Election for Westchester County Executive continues through February 9, 2025. The Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building Community Room, located at 1 Van Wyck Street, Croton-on-Hudson, is a designated early voting site and will be open as follows:
- Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.
- Friday, February 7, 2025 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
- Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Westchester residents can vote early at any of the 25 designated Early Voting sites throughout the County. Please contact the Westchester County Board of Elections at 914-995-5700 with any questions regarding Early Voting.

Tax Grievance Day Information
On Tuesday, February 18th, the Board of Trustees will be meeting in their role as the Board of Assessment Review. In this role, they meet annually to consider the applications of property owners who feel their Village property assessment is not correct. This process is known as Grievance Day. The Board will be meeting from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Georgianna Grant Meeting Room.
Tax grievance applications must be completed and filed with the Village Assessor, Roger Miller, prior to 4 p.m. on February 18th. The Board of Assessment Review will consider all applications during the Grievance Day meeting. To help you understand whether you should file a tax grievance to reduce your residential property assessment, perform the following calculation: Divide your property’s current assessed valuation by the 2025 Residential Assessment Ratio (RAR) which is 0.0253. The result will provide the estimated market value of the property.
Commercial properties follow a different procedure. Information is available on the Assessor's page of the Village website, in the Village Engineering Office, or you may call 914-271-4783.

Croton Lions Club Donation to the Bronx Zoo
The leftover pine trees from the Croton Lions Club Christmas Tree Fundraiser were donated to the Bronx Zoo, where many animals enjoyed playing with and rubbing against them. The Bison even seemed to enjoy tasting the trees! To watch the full video of the Bison, visit the Bronx Zoo's Facebook page.

For your safety and protection, never skate alone!
Night skating under the lights will continue on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, when conditions allow.

Snow Reminders...
A friendly reminder that the Village Code requires the clearing of snow and ice from the full width of the sidewalk 12 hours after the cessation of snowfall. The Village will declare an official end time to each storm, which will be posted on the Village website and social media. Residents can sign up to receive Snow Alerts via email by registering here.
The Village thanks you in advance for clearing your sidewalk of snow and ice — doing so creates a safer environment for our pedestrians and especially children who walk to school. Sidewalks not cleared after the prescribed 12 hours will be cleared by the Village’s contractor. Property owners will be billed for this service. Any bills which remain unpaid shall be levied to the property owner’s Village tax bill.
In order to facilitate keeping our streets clear of snow and ice, no parking is allowed on any Village street when there is 2 or more inches of snow. For residents that have no viable off-street parking, Village municipal lots are available for parking. Seasonal hardship parking permits are also available for those who qualify. Hardship permit holders shall move their vehicles no later than 12 hours after the snow stops. For more information on the above, please call the Village office at 914-271-4781.

2025 SUMMER CAMPS – SAVE THE DATES!
Camp registration will begin in mid-March. Applications will be available online and at the Recreation Department. Additional specialty camps and programs will be listed in the 2025 Spring/Summer Recreation Brochure, which will be published the first week of April.
The location for Day Camp will be announced at a later date due to ongoing renovations at the schools.

2025 Summer Employment Opportunities with Croton Recreation
The Recreation Department has begun accepting applications for 2025 summer employment opportunities, including day camp counselors, life guards at Silver Lake, and gate attendants at Silver Lake and Senasqua Park. Applicants must be at least 16 years old as of July 1st. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old as of July 1st. Croton Caring and the Croton PBA are running the "Wheels for Croton" bicycle donation program, accepting gently used bicycles and tricycles for children through March 1, 2025. This ongoing initiative brings the joy of cycling to local children, promoting outdoor activity and fun.Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:
- The Croton-on-Hudson Police Department at 1 Van Wyck Street
All bicycles and tricycles must be in good condition and are intended exclusively for children. Help make a difference by donating a bicycle today!

Repair Cafe
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson, in partnership with the Conservation Advisory Council, is pleased to announce that Croton's next Repair Cafe will take place on March 29th, in the Community Room of the Municipal Building at 1 Van Wyck Street, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The Repair Cafe is a community event where people bring their broken, unused treasures to be repaired by skillful volunteer repair coaches, at no cost whatsoever! So save the date and start searching for those abandoned and malfunctioning items!
And if you are handy, think about becoming a repair coach yourself! Typically, a Repair Cafe welcomes volunteer fixers who can repair wooden, mechanical and electronic items, clothing, soft toys, jewelry, and bikes, offer guidance on digital screens and provide knife and/or tool sharpening services. If you have a talent to fix things in any of the above categories, and a desire to participate in a proven environmental initiative, please email sherryccac@gmail.com
