February Highlighted Fuel

Propane

Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or LP-gas) or Autogas, has been used worldwide as a vehicle fuel for decades. Stored under pressure inside a tank, propane turns into a colorless, odorless liquid. As pressure is released, the liquid propane vaporizes and turns into gas that is used for combustion. An odorant, ethyl mercaptan, is added for leak detection. Propane has a high-octane rating and excellent properties for spark-ignited internal combustion engines. Propane is produced as a by-product of natural gas processing and crude oil refining.

Utilities Turn to Microgrids Powered by Solar, Battery & Propane for Resilience in Remote Areas

"Propane is an excellent energy choice to support these renewable microgrids since it is a clean, on-site fuel source with no expiration date. Propane is significantly cleaner than diesel, emitting 25% to 35% fewer greenhouse gases and producing almost no nitrogen oxides such as NOx and SOx. In addition, propane releases virtually no particulate matter, making it a perfect complement to solar power and batteries."

I knew I wanted to stay connected and be an active, valuable team member. When I was asked to join the board, I was honored to do so."

What's your favorite part of being a DCI Board Member?

"The chance to work with this incredible team, whose entire mission is to help others. Advocating, educating, and supporting...it's what we get to do. How cool is THIS gig?"

What DCI event do you enjoy the most?

"Our Annual REACT Expo is my favorite - hands down! All of our events are great, but that's the one that brings all of our sector professionals together to meet, share, learn, and recognize our industry's finest! I LOVE seeing old friends and making new ones every year."

Coffee or tea?

"Both! A good, strong coffee to wake up, and herbal tea to sip all day long!"

What is your favorite book?

"A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. I read it so often that I wear out the spine and need to buy a new copy. It's what inspired me to hike sections of the Appalachian Trail."

What is something you're looking forward to?
