Dear friends,
The recent weather has provided an excellent opportunity for television viewing and binge-watching. I recently discovered a show on Apple TV titled "Silos," which is adapted from a book. The series portrays a civilization compelled to reside within a 144-story silo, where its inhabitants have established their own set of rules governing life, including population management and a hierarchical structure. While some individuals within the silo ponder what lies beyond its confines, many are content with the established system and their familiar existence.
This scenario can be quite reflective of the fundraising landscape, can't it? We often enter our organizations with a singular focus on securing necessary funding and advancing our missions. In doing so, we may inadvertently isolate ourselves, operating within our own silos, which over time can lead to feelings of loneliness or disconnection.
The strength of AFP-Fort Worth Metro lies in our ability to break free from these silos, enabling us to learn from one another and to share both our successes and our challenges, ultimately enhancing the impact of our work.
Additionally, it is vital to stay informed about emerging trends in philanthropy. Our February program will feature a returning favorite of the AFP-FW chapter, Missy Gale, who will present the findings of the Generosity Commission, a report released last September.
I look forward to seeing you at our February luncheon. I encourage you to step outside your silo and engage in meaningful learning with your peers!
Warm Regards,
Trey Harper, CFRE
