Heart Disease and High Blood Pressure: Nutrition Interventions

Nutrition plays a crucial role in managing heart disease and high blood pressure. Join us for this informative webinar, where we will explore effective nutrition strategies to support cardiovascular health. Learn which foods and nutrients can help reduce hypertension and improve overall heart health, along with practical tips for incorporating them into your daily diet.


This session is presented by Sound Dietitians, LLC, and is co-sponsored by Verdant Health Commission and Stilly Valley Health Connections. The event is free and is open to anyone in the community.

The Basics of Heart Health

Join us for an informative session where we will explore the basics of heart anatomy, dive into the four categories of heart disease, and discuss the nine key risk factors for coronary artery disease. Practical steps you can take to manage these risks and improve your heart health will be covered.


Jeff Rhodes, a Cardiac Rehab Supervisor with Skagit Regional Health, will be presenting this topic. There will be a Q&A at the end, so please bring your questions! This event is free and is open to anyone in the community. This presentation will be offered during the regular scheduled Mended Hearts meeting.

American Heart Association Recipe

Tomato and Roasted Red Bell Pepper Soup

Ingredients:

  • 14.5 oz. canned, no-salt-added, diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1 3/4 cups fat-free, low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup chopped, roasted red bell peppers, drained if bottled
  • 1 Tbsp. dried basil (crumbled)
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano (crumbled)
  • 1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tsp. olive oil (extra virgin preferred)
  • 1/4 tsp. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped, fresh parsley

Directions:

In a medium saucepan, stir together the tomatoes with liquid, broth, roasted peppers, basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in the oil, sugar, and salt. Serve sprinkled with the parsley.

Schedule an appointment to have your car seats professionally checked by a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) at no cost! Caregivers will be provided with the instruction and guidance they need to ensure their children are safely buckled in. Car seat checks can be performed at Stilly Valley Health Connections in Arlington or at the Darrington Fire Station in Darrington.
