Apéro National French Conversation Group (en français) – Every Wednesday | |
The group is for high-intermediate to advanced (or fluent) speakers who are current members of an Alliance Française chapter in the U.S. (if you are not a current member of an Alliance chapter, visit the Chapter’s page and sign up for membership at one of your closest AF chapters) or AATF members. Native speakers are welcome. This group conversation is for adult participants, ages 17 and up.
Note that conversation groups are not substitutes for taking an official French class. Conversation groups are for informal practice and for sharing the joy of conversing in French with other like-minded Francophiles or Francophones.
The national group meets by Zoom for an hour every Wednesday, and meets to accommodate our after-work Apéro theme:
Every Wednesday @ 5:00 PT / 7:00 pm CT / 8:00 pm ET
The group is hosted by a member of the Federation of Alliances Françaises board – Linda Witt. Attendees will be assigned to breakout rooms of 4-5 people, with each breakout session lasting 14 minutes. The rooms are then are re-created (for a different mix each time). In this way, participants get to meet and chat with a variety of participants from different backgrounds, regions, and fluency levels.
Participants will need to use Zoom (a free videoconferencing service). To get on the invitation list for the “Apéro-National” sessions, click here.

Art Dealer Berthe Weill’s Contribution to French Art History: A Conversation with Lynn Gumpert and Beth Gersh-Nesic
Feb 13 2025, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
| |
| | "Make Way for Berthe Weill: Art Dealer of the Parisian Avant-Garde," currently at the Grey Art Museum, New York University, shines a bright spotlight on an unsung hero who believed in the emerging artists of the early 20th century, even when she earned very little for her efforts. Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, Fernand Léger, Diego Rivera, and Raul Dufy are among the best-known artists in this exhibition. However, there are many lesser-known artists among the 110 paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures, as well as photographs, catalogues, and other archival material illustrating her life and gallery. This homage to Berthe Weill (1865-1951) also reintroduces numerous gifted women artists: Suzanne Valaden, Emilie Charmy, Jacqueline Marval, and Hermione David, among many others. A conversation with co-curator Lynn Gumpert, Director of the Grey Art Museum, and art historian Beth Gersh-Nesic, will shed light on Berthe Weill's biography, the artists included in the exhibition, and the fascinating backstory for this show, which took over a decade of dedication from a brilliant team of women arts professionals. The exhibition will be on view at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art from May through September 2025, and then in Paris at the Musée de l'Orangerie, from October 2025 through January 2026.
