Toolbox Spotlight
Red gardening fork with semicircular metal piece attached at handle near forks with irises in raised garden in background

Designed to reduce strain on one's back and joints, the EarthLifter Spading Fork utilizes a "rolling fulcrum" for controlled lifting. This not only allows one's posture to be in better alignment with spinal orientation, but also reportedly provides a 4:1 mechanical advantage (i.e., 1 pound of effort to lift 4 pounds). The tool can be used for harvesting root crops and for removing weeds, grasses, rocks, etc. as well as tilling the soil. Several of these devices will be available in the 2025 NTW auction.
