Tea & Watercolor

The trickiest part about creating art is setting aside the time to do it! Spend the morning at Sturgis Library experimenting and exploring with watercolor paints!

Letter Writing Club

Tuesday, February 10th, 2026 at 5:30pm-6:30pm


It's not too late to join The Letter Writing Club and begin practicing the art of meaningful, thoughtful correspondence.


Join The Letter Writing Club and pledge to write one letter each month for the entire year.


Club members are encouraged to gather at Sturgis Library on the second Tuesday of the month where stationary, art supplies, a letter prompt, and a sense of connection will be provided.


Club members needn’t gather in person; if gathering in person is not possible, letter prompts can be emailed to club members.

Adult Mixed Media Workshop with Victoria Templeton

Thursday, February 12th, 2026 from 11:00am-2:00pm


Explore collage and mixed-media art with a Valentine’s theme!


Artist Victoria Templeton will guide participants in creating a one-of-a-kind Valentine-inspired art piece.


Supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own paper scraps, photographs, ribbon, or other interesting materials to personalize their work.


This program is intended for adults. Registration is required, as space is limited.

The Art of Picture Books

Adults are invited to join Children's Librarian Christy Munier for a monthly gathering honoring the brilliance of picture books and picture book art.


This gathering will focus on the artwork of Daniel Miyares.

Barnstable Council on Aging: Memory Techniques

Tuesday, February 17th, 2026 at 10:00am


Join Stacey Cullen as she discusses an in-depth examination of the different methods that can enhance our memory. It will address strategies for remembering names, vocabulary, and managing commitments.

Half Day Valentine Workshop

It's a half day for Barnstable Public School kiddos! Spend some time crafting Valentines for the upcoming holiday!


Beads for friendship bracelets, and various art materials will be provided for creating the perfect gift for friends.

Lego Club

Master Builders of all ages are invited to swing by Sturgis Library to create a Lego masterpiece!


Lego creations will be put on display for one week in the children’s room for all to admire.

The Bookish Society of Young Readers

Tuesday, February 10th, 2026 at 5:30pm


Readers ages 10ish-13ish are invited to join The Bookish Society’s monthly book club!


This gathering will focus on The Lost Spells by Robert MacFarlane. This book is a beautiful collection of poems and illustrations that evokes the magic of the everyday natural world.


Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.

Save the date of April 25th, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm for Sturgis Library's National Library Week Open House! Bring the family and enjoy refreshments, listen to music, do a craft, enter a drawing to win cool stuff, view treasures from our archives, peruse our exhibits, take a self-guided tour of the historic section of the Library, get a library card, and visit with friends and neighbors. This year's National Library Week is "Find Your Joy!" and we invite you to find it here at Sturgis Library. More information will be available in March.

Smithsonian Museum Traveling Exhibition

Voices & Votes: Democracy in America at the Nye Museum

The Smithsonian Institution is hitting the road and traveling to different rural sites in Massachusetts. The Nye Museum is very proud to have been selected as a host site for the Smithsonian Museum’s Traveling Exhibition titled Voices and Votes: Democracy in America. It will be on view at the Nye Museum through January 31 – Tuesday through Friday 10-3 & Saturday 11-4. They can’t wait to share this experience with you!


Voices and Votes has been made possible in Sandwich, Massachusetts by Mass Humanities.

Voices and Votes: Democracy in America is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. It is based on an exhibition by the National Museum of American History. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.
