As we enter the season of expressing appreciation to those who mean so much to us, I am pressed to share my appreciation for our 4-H volunteers, many of whom are also 4-H parents. As I deliver program updates and reports at the local, state and federal levels, I find myself proclaiming with great pride how much our volunteers do for the program and mean to the program. This appreciation is one of the driving forces behind our new section of this newsletter in which outstanding and longtime volunteers are highlighted each month. The 4-H statewide team is also in discussion regarding other ways to express our appreciation this month but also year-round.
In other news, I had the distinct pleasure in January of meeting with officials with the University of California Early Academic Outreach Program (UC EAOP). This statewide team is working with youth in a similar age group, especially as it relates to delivery of academic support services. Given the opportunities for synergy with UC EAOP, we are exploring how our programs might complement each other in developing the life and work readiness skills of youth. To learn more about the EAOP and whether their services are offered in a school near you, please visit their website using this link: https://eaop.universityofcalifornia.edu/
We are also delighted to announce new additions to the statewide 4-H team:
Ms. Jodi Tannaci, Siskiyou County
Ms. Socorro de Figueiredo, Tulare County
and the appointment of
Ms. Zeva Cho, 4-H Statewide Program Manager,
to the role of Interim Assistant 4-H Director.
Congratulations to the 4-H Mini-Grant Program Steering Committee for their work and the following 4-H professionals who have been awarded 4-H mini-grants for Spring 2026, along with the county to be served and curriculum/curricula to be delivered:
-
Michael Ryan- Solano County - Cooking Academy
-

-
Rita Jakel- Orange County - Cooking Academy and Youth Experiences in Science
-
Leslie Rendon Castro- Riverside County - Youth Experiences in Science

Sponsored by the State 4-H Office, the purpose of the mini-grant program is to promote opportunities to grow, strengthen, or expand a partnership with an expanded learning organization in order to engage young people in an experiential learning 4-H program.
In Community and with Steadfast, Unmovable Hope…
