Success in school starts with one simple but powerful action—showing up.
Regular attendance plays a huge role in student success. When students are in school consistently, they build stronger academic skills, develop positive relationships with peers and teachers, and stay connected to their learning community. Even missing just a few days each month can add up to a significant amount of lost learning time over the course of a year.
We are so proud of the students who demonstrated outstanding commitment to their education by achieving perfect attendance during first semester. Showing up every day takes responsibility, organization, and dedication — and these students set an incredible example for all of us. As we continue with second semester, we'll keep encouraging students to be present, engaged, and ready to learn — because Every Day Matters!

Our school community is proud to celebrate a major milestone for Head Boys Basketball Coach Dan Rosacker, who recently earned his 400th career win.
Reaching 400 wins is a remarkable achievement that reflects not only years of dedication to the game, but also a lasting commitment to our student-athletes. Under Coach Rosacker's leadership, our basketball program has built a tradition of hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship. His impact reaches far beyond the scoreboard, as he continues to mentor players, build character, and create positive experiences that students carry with them long after graduation.
Congratulations to Coach Rosacker on 400 wins! We are grateful for the energy, passion, and leadership he brings to our program every season.

Sophomore Alivia Bruckhoff has earned the prestigious AFS Global Prep Scholarship, giving her the opportunity to study abroad this summer in Nice, France. Alivia will spend four weeks at the Centre Méditerranéen d’Études Françaises, a renowned language camp where she will strengthen her French skills while experiencing French culture firsthand. This highly competitive scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic promise, leadership, and a passion for global learning. We are proud of Alivia for representing our school on an international stage and can’t wait to hear about her adventure!

Seven of our middle school musicians had the honor of representing Forest City at the Karl King Honor Band in Fort Dodge on January 17. This event brings together outstanding young performers from across the region for a day of focused rehearsals that concludes with a concert presentation. We are incredibly proud of these students for their hard work and for representing our school with excellence!

The Forest City FFA Chapter recently hosted the Northwest Iowa FFA Sub-Districts Contests. Area chapters compete in categories such as public speaking, creed speaking, parliamentary procedure, and job interviews to advance to the district level. These events focus on leadership and communication, with top finishers advancing to districts, and eventually the Iowa FFA State Convention.
Congratulations to our chapter that advanced two events to districts with a 1st gold and 2nd gold rating, four events as alternate to districts with 3rd gold and 3rd silver ratings, and three silver rating finishes.
| | Aubrey Schnebly, Dru Seglem, and Allison Wirtjes have earned the prestigious Iowa FFA Degree, the highest honor the Iowa FFA Association can award at the state level. This achievement recognizes FFA members who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, community involvement, and success in their Supervised Agricultural Experience programs. Earning the Iowa FFA Degree reflects years of dedication, hard work, and commitment to agricultural education. We are incredibly proud of these students for representing our district with excellence and living out the values of FFA. | | |
This month, a primary focus has been helping students build self-reliance, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility through classroom lessons, small groups, and everyday conversations. These skills help students of all ages grow in confidence, handle challenges, and take ownership of their learning — which supports academic success, future career readiness, and overall well-being.
Families can support this growth at home by encouraging students to attempt tasks independently, ask for help when needed, follow through on responsibilities, and reflect on their progress. When students build these habits, they feel more capable, resilient, and prepared for whatever comes next.

National School Counseling Week was February 2-6! We’re proud to recognize the important role our school counselors play every day. From academic planning and career guidance to social-emotional support, our counselors are trusted advocates who help students navigate challenges, set goals, and plan for the future. Thank you to our school counseling team for supporting the success and well-being of our students every day! | | Classroom & Activity Highlights | | Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school with a fun hands-on activity that was a great way to practice counting! To mark the milestone, students created necklaces using 100 pieces of cereal, counting each piece as they strung them together. The project helped reinforce number sense and fine motor skills while giving students a fun and memorable way to recognize how far they’ve come this school year. | | Our first-grade students recently created animal habitat dioramas! After studying different animals and the environments they call home, students designed detailed scenes representing a variety of habitats, including the desert, Arctic, savanna, tropical rainforest, temperate deciduous forest, freshwater, and saltwater ecosystems. Through this hands-on project, students demonstrated their understanding of how animals rely on their habitats for food, water, and shelter. The activity also encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and a strong sense of pride as students shared their finished work with classmates. | | Our fifth-graders finished their science unit on the properties of matter with a real-world focus on water quality. As part of their learning, students designed their own water filters and tested water samples for acidity, chlorine, and other common pollutants. Through hands-on experiments and thoughtful discussions, they discovered what it takes to keep water healthy for all living things. Most importantly, they walked away with a deeper understanding of why protecting our water resources matters for everyone. | | Fifth-grade students have been busy creating a museum showcasing famous patriots in the Revolutionary War. Students had multiple options for their museum exhibits: they could design a poster board display, develop a computer game featuring their patriot, or create a Canva presentation incorporating visuals and audio. As part of their exhibit, students researched and wrote a biography to bring their historical figure to life. They did a great job creating tickets, posters, and extra mini-exhibit projects to include in the museum. The event ended with a live museum where students presented their exhibits to other fifth-grade students and staff from the school. The students enjoyed presenting and sharing all they learned about their patriots. It was a fun and interactive way to celebrate their learning and understanding of America’s founding. | | |
High School PE classes recently had a unique hands-on learning experience when members of the National Guard visited classes to talk with students about their careers and the important role physical fitness plays in their work. Students learned how strength, endurance, coordination, and mental focus are all part of staying mission-ready and working effectively as a team.
One of the most exciting parts of the visit was the chance for students to safely try on Night Vision Goggles and navigate a small obstacle course. Moving through the course with limited visibility challenged students’ balance, coordination, reaction time, and concentration.
This activity helped bring PE concepts to life by connecting classroom skills to real-world careers. Students walked away with a deeper understanding of how physical readiness, teamwork, and perseverance are used well beyond the gym.
| | High School students in Health have been learning essential first aid skills through hands-on, practical activities. Lessons include how to recognize and respond to allergic reactions, safely use Epi-Pens and AEDs, perform CPR, properly tape ankles, create slings, and understand the basics of insulin use and diabetes care. These activities focus on building confidence, preparedness, and critical decision-making skills students may need in real-life emergencies. Emphasis is placed on safety, proper technique, and knowing when to seek adult or professional help. This unit helps students develop lifelong skills that promote health, responsibility, and community safety. | | Preschool Registration Now Open for 2026-2027 School Year | | Preschool is where a child's school journey starts. Watch to hear from our students and teachers about what a day in our preschool looks like and what makes it such a special place. From learning and play to friendships and exploration, our preschool classrooms help students feel confident, supported, and ready for what comes next. | | | |
