💖 Youth Leaders Show Up for Their Community 💝

February is often about love. At PWC, we focus on loving where you live...and showing up for it.

This month, our youth stepped into leadership across parks, community events, and cultural spaces throughout East County. Here’s what that looked like.

🌿 Pittsburg Conservationists in Action

The cold weather hasn't stopped our Pittsburg Conservationists from exploring the great outdoors.

At Tilden Park, clients and families joined us for a hands-on Family Picnic Day in partnership with the East Bay Regional Park District.

They explored the Fungus Fair, learned how fungi support entire ecosystems, walked the trails, and spent intentional time outdoors together.

At Redwood Regional Park, our youth used trail maps to navigate Canyon Meadow and Stream Trail, compare ecosystems, and search under logs for newts.

These experiences build more than knowledge. They build focus, curiosity, and confidence. When young people feel comfortable in natural spaces, they start to see themselves as protectors of them.

We are so grateful to our partners, the East Bay Regional Park District, for leading field trips full of environmental education, family engagement, and community connection!

🦀 Leadership in Real Time

At the Moose Lodge Crab Feed, our youth helped with set-up, serving, and clean-up, working directly with community members and event organizers.

Our youth displayed great communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism.

We are so proud of their great work!

🎭 Supporting the Arts in Pittsburg

Our youth also supported the California Theatre’s production of The Color Purple, assisting behind the scenes to help the event run smoothly.

Thank you to our PWC youth for literally and figuratively setting the stage for a great show!!

💡 NextGen Green Jobs Program Officially Launched

This month, we kicked off our NextGen Green Jobs Program and the engagement has been strong from day one!

We are so thankful for our collaborators:

  • Mount Diablo Resource Recovery
  • Patelco Credit Union
  • Pittsburg Library

Guest speakers have visited our office to lead sessions on financial literacy, hands-on green careers, and workforce readiness. Youth are learning about sustainability, career pathways, budgeting, and the practical skills needed to succeed in today’s job market.

The energy has been buzzing! Students are asking questions, participating actively, and beginning to see themselves in careers they may not have previously imagined.

Looking forward to sharing more in the coming months!

Thank you for reading PWC family, see you next month!
