We are thrilled to announce that this month, The High Lonesome Ranch is officially partnering with Halter to implement state-of-the-art virtual fencing technology across our acreage.

Halter utilizes solar-powered GPS collars and a digital app to create "virtual fences." Instead of physical wire, the collars use gentle audio cues to guide our cattle and keep them within specific boundaries. For our Livestock & Agriculture team, this means the ability to shift herds and monitor animal health 24/7 directly from a smartphone.

As an Audubon Certified ranch, our commitment to regenerative agriculture is at the heart of everything we do. This partnership is a game-changer for our land management for several reasons:

◦Precision Grazing: We can now execute complex rotational grazing patterns with a few taps on a screen. This ensures our pastures have the exact recovery time they need, promoting deeper root systems and healthier soil.

◦Protecting Riparian Zones: We can instantly create exclusion zones around sensitive waterways and wildlife habitats without the labor and materials of permanent fencing.

◦Reduced Infrastructure Footprint: By moving away from physical internal fencing, we allow for more natural wildlife migration across our landscape while still maintaining total control over our cattle’s impact.

This technology allows our crew to work smarter, not harder. By reducing the hundreds of hours typically spent stringing poly wire and repairing fence lines, our team can focus more on animal husbandry and long-term land stewardship. It’s an exciting step forward in blending regenerative ranching values with modern innovation.

We are excited to invite you to the Mesa County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 14th, for the annual Meat In Day!

You may know this annual tradition by a different name, but going forward, the celebration is officially “Meat In Mesa County.” Hosted by the Mesa County Cattlemen’s Association, the mission remains the same: connecting our local community with the producers who steward the land.

What to Expect at the Event: It’s going to be an all-around good time from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, featuring:

◦Free Lunch: The MCCA will be cooking and giving away over 1,000 burgers!

◦Family Fun: Live music, carriage rides, a cow/calf pair for the kids to meet, and a cash bar for the adults!

◦Local Shopping: Browse and support various Western Slope businesses.

We are officially in the thick of calving season, and the pastures are beginning to fill with the first arrivals of the year!

Seeing these first calves hit the ground is always a high point for our team. These little ones represent the next generation of our herd and a fresh cycle of life for our regenerative ecosystem.

Our Livestock team is out in the fields daily, ensuring every mama is healthy and every calf is getting a strong start. There’s nothing quite like watching a newborn find its legs for the first time or seeing the "zoomies" take over a group of calves in the afternoon sun.
