COVID & Hybrid Update

A Message from the Principal

As we complete another week in our hybrid environment, we're proud to say it's another week with zero on-campus spread of the virus. We will continue our diligence and keep following all ongoing protocols and guidelines. Starting next week, we're offering weekly on-campus testing. The soonest on-campus COVID test date is this Wednesday, Feb. 24 and today is the last day to sign up.

One of the reasons for the weekly testing is we are asking our athletes to test weekly. It is so exciting to have sport seasons beginning, and CDPH has released guidelines to open outdoor sports in the coming weeks. Please check our athletics website for updates as we receive additional guidelines.

Vaccinations are opening for educators and we are providing employees with the most up-to-date information as local roll-outs ramp up. The courage and selflessness of our faculty and staff to create an on-campus environment has been truly remarkable, and I can’t thank them enough for all that they are providing for our young women.

On-campus Hybrid Status
The deadline for change of status requests was last Friday. Thank you for your patience as we make sure students are safe as we work to implement on-campus learning with social distancing guidelines. The order of review is as follows:

  1. Re-integrate all virtual (G3) students who elect to come back on campus. Date of re-entry will be Monday, Feb. 22.
  2. Reach out to families with a waiver to place student into a different cohort if the number of returning students impacts class balance. Students will potentially be placed back into the designated group. We may have to make adjustments to students with a waiver for G4 status (on campus four days a week) as needed.
  3. Review group waiver request to try and accommodate any requests to change groups.
  4. Integrate students into campus four days a week. This is the hardest to accomplish especially in the younger grades already running at capacity. It will take a week or so to process.

We promise to reach out as quickly as possible and update the website to provide the next date for status date requests. Please know, our primary goal is to have as many students on campus as possible while maintaining an environment that keeps everyone safe.
Weekly COVID Testing on-campus
The next upcoming test date is Wed. Feb. 24 and test will be available weekly through the rest of semester. Appointments are required.
Student Life Updates
Class Spotlights
Freshmen and Seniors: Wednesday, Feb. 24, 8:30-11:00 AM
We are kicking off our DREAM Inclusive Community Conversations at this week’s class spotlight. DREAM stands for: Design, Reflect, Extend, Aspire, and Mobilize. As the world looks to and hopes for a return to a more regular school, work, and social life, this is an opportunity for us to celebrate our supportive and nurturing community and identify how we can create a space where everyone feels that they belong.

Hybrid students will be on campus in the morning and should bring their iPads. Students at home will participate on Zoom. The day begins with a reflection on our Carondelet community and Sisterhood. The spotlight ends with a Black History Month presentation prepared by the Black Student Union: “Reflections on Black Excellence.”

Sophomores and Juniors - Wednesday, March 3
Sophomores and Juniors will have their DREAM Inclusive Community Conversation experience on March 3. Details on time will be in next week’s E-Newsletter.

Information of future Flex Wednesdays, and class spotlights will be published as they get closer. Please review the School Calendar for upcoming events.

Keep Left when dropping off...
When dropping off your student in the mornings and picking up in the afternoons, please keep left as you pass the Convent and approach the drop-off zone. This allows other drivers to pass you on the right and keep traffic moving safely and slowly. Thank you!
Schedule updates
There have been two updates to the school calendar for this semester.
  • Friday, March 12 is now a school holiday. That week will no longer have a Flex Day and classes will meet on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Tuesday, April 27 will now be a Flex Day to accommodate Juniors taking the SAT. 4/5/6/0 classes will meet on Wednesday, April 28 that week.
Happening Now
Hacking the Issue
Nearly four hours into the second Carondelet Hackathon, students across grade levels work in small teams, narrowing down ideas written on sticky notes and notebooks. They're creating solutions to the question, "How do we encourage teens to spend more time outside?"
Lights, Camera, ACTION
What action do you take after watching a great documentary? That’s what cultural strategist and filmmaker Sonya Childress asked at our live webinar about Harnessing the Power of Film. Watch her full presentation.
Beyond Earth
Mars looks good in the Innovation Center! Students in Beyond Earth, our space club, watched Perseverance safely touch down on the Martian surface on a screen that might be as big as the one at Mission Control.
Coming Up
Last chance to order crab!

Bring a feast home for the family to enjoy! We are maintaining our fun annual tradition despite extraordinary circumstances with a Drive Thru Crab Feed. Meal pick up will be on campus on Saturday, March 6. All food will be prepared, packaged, and delivered to your car in strict compliance with all COVID-19 safety measures and guidelines.

Place your order by noon on Friday. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser will assist in funding activities for the graduating class of 2021 as well as various activities that support all students and staff throughout the year.
Swing into Spring, May 3rd

This talk with futurist and Stanford Design School Fellow will cover real world stories of how voice bots like Siri and Alexa are shaping our society, and how some are left out of the conversation. It will explore how race, gender, and ability impact the creation of emerging technologies like AI and machine learning, and consider how K-12 school communities can overcome biased tech designs to address equity and social justice.
