February 22 Greetings
Dear Ones,

It’s Monday, the beginning of the last full week of February as we continue to “Be Church Together” even as the church building is closed for gatherings. The weather continues to be a little warmer than average, I even managed to get a little sunburn yesterday, while sitting out on my deck in the afternoon. I have a little anticipation of spring. I know that we still have almost the entire season of Lent ahead of us, but the flowers on our little cactus plant in the window give me a feeling of hope.
We are praying and planning for our first outdoor worship on the last Sunday in March for Palm Sunday! We anticipate meeting at 1:00 p.m. again in the parking lot since it will be warmer in the afternoon. It would be wonderful to be physically together in some fashion for Easter, so we will keep watch over the weather in hopes of making that happen. Part of the planning is to make sure that we have folks willing to help with set up and take down. I hope to have two teams that can rotate weeks so that no one group is overburdened. If you would be willing to come 30 minutes before service or stay 30 minutes after, please call or email the church office to let us know! We will continue to offer livestreamed and recorded worship so that those who are still uncomfortable or not able to join us can participate with us virtually.
This Wednesday is the first of our evening Lenten services on Zoom at 6:30 p.m. featuring Holden Evening Prayer with communion. Please have your bread and wine ready for communion. There will be a fellowship time after the service so that everyone has a chance to visit and we will offer the same for the coming Wednesday evenings. If we end up with enough people, we will use the Zoom breakout rooms to make conversations easier. Let’s share this time together and then have some soup!
There is still time to pick up your Lenten Devotional booklets. I love knowing that we are all reading the devotions daily as we travel this Lenten Journey together. The second plastic bin placed in the front of the church was stolen, so now look for a smaller plastic box by the north kitchen door, sitting on the HVAC unit. You can get there by the dumpster, just take a left onto the walkway. The current Christ in Our Home devotionals are there also.

We continue to pray for guidance regarding a Treasurer. If you know of someone (even yourself) who might be qualified, please contact me or Council President Julie Pavri. We must fill this position. If you have been a manager in a company or agency and can balance your checkbook, you have the skills for this job! Gary Coe has streamlined all the reports and we are doing well financially, so there has never been a better time to take on this job. Gary is willing to show you the ropes. We may need to think outside the box on this: how about two folks taking on the task?

Shhhhh…Tomorrow is Isabel Benell’s birthday, and we are doing a drive-by birthday celebration at 1:00 p.m. We will gather at 12:50 p.m. on the right-hand shoulder of the road—Old Black Canyon Hwy, just after you turn left off of Stone Ridge Drive. Decorate your car with balloons or a sign to celebrate this wonderful occasion!
Here’s “The Sound of Silence”, beautifully played by Hauser among stunning mountain vistas.
“The Lord Bless You and Keep You” was written by John Rutter and sung by Bobby Goulder in St. Mary’s Church in Essex, England. A blessing for all those mourning the deaths of the 500,000 who have died from COVID-19 in the United States this past year.
Have a blessed day everyone! Please make good choices regarding your safety and others’. Wear your mask, keep your distance, stay at home if you are at risk or not feeling well, wash your hands, and sign up to get vaccinated as soon as you can. If you need help getting an appointment for your vaccination, please call the church office; there are people who have volunteered to help. Precious ones; choose love, to care for your neighbor and yourself by staying safe!
The church office is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; don’t hesitate to call Pastor Tricia (310-890-9785) or the church office (928-772-4135) if you need something, and email emmanuelelca@gmail.com if you have something to share.
Ben Stricker passed away January 2, 2021. We learned today that his memorial service is Friday, February 26, at 2:30 p.m. at The Prescott National Military Cemetery off Hwy 69. The service will take place near the flagpole with full military honors.
We also heard today that Dwan Walters died on Friday, February 19. She had been on hospice care. We hold Stan, her family and all who loved her in prayer as we mourn her passing.
Tim bought this cactus a year ago, and it is finally blooming!
A Bible verse for today:
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
