St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents,

Our Home and School Association officers have been working very hard over the past few months organizing our school on-line auction and bidding will start this Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. This auction is open to you, your friends, your family, your co-workers, our alumni, parishioners and anyone else who would like to help support St. Rita School. Please share the information about our upcoming auction with anyone who might be interested in participating in our largest fundraiser of the year. All bidding information will be sent out to you in a separate email this week, so please take the time to share it. Your assistance in making the auction a success is greatly appreciated. Bid high, bid often!

Our Lenten service project is underway and we are grateful to you and your children for the support of our endeavor to feed the hungry. This pandemic has been challenging for everyone and food scarcity is a concern for many members of our community. All monies raised will be given to the CT Food Bank in Wallingford or the Divine Mercy Food Pantry located at St. Rita Church. Instead of simply giving your child a donation, have them do some chores to pitch in around the house, donate some of their own money, or sacrifice by going without buying a lunch snack or making a purchase from our school store. All of these suggestions may better help your child understand the true meaning of sacrifice.

Our second trimester is coming to a close on March 12 and our remote learners have the opportunity to return for in-person instruction on Monday, March 15. At this time, students currently participating in in-person classes have the opportunity to switch to remote learning for the remainder of the school year. Please understand that once the 3rd trimester begins students cannot switch back and forth between learning modes except for COVID related issues. If you are interested in having your child switch to remote learning until the end of the school year, please give me a call or send me an email. Remote learners in grades 3-7 will be responsible for taking the IOWA test on-line.

Yesterday one of our staff members tested positive for COVID-19. This staff member was only in school Monday morning for a short time and subsequently only one class needed to be quarantined. Following CDC and QVHD protocols, all the necessary information has been submitted for contact tracing and those individuals considered a “close contact” have been notified.

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that many students are coming to school without the proper uniform, most especially improper footwear. Also, we continue to have many boys with long and unruly hair styles. Students will be receiving uniform infraction notices should they continue not to be in compliance with the proper dress code, including hair styles. Please review the dress code and grooming guidelines in the student handbook so your child does not receive a notice which will then lead to a detention.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. May the faith, hope and love of this beautiful grace-filled Lenten season bring to you and your family a renewed sense of God’s peace.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

Update to Covid Quarantine guidelines.

These are the guidelines we are now following as part of the CDC’s newest guidelines when it comes to Covid 19.

If an individual does not have Covid-19 symptoms but had close contact to someone diagnosed with Covid-19:
Remain home in self-quarantine for the recommended 10 days from last exposure to the person diagnosed with Covid-19. If symptoms occur, contact your health care provider.

If you test positive:
Remain home until 10 day’s have passed since date of positive Covid-19 test or if you have symptoms, 10 days since symptoms began.
There was an addendum that had to do with testing on day 5 of an exposure and exiting quarantine after 7 days but our school district is NOT implementing that at this time.

Just a reminder of isolation vs Quarantine

Isolation = When you are experiencing symptoms or have a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19

Quarantine = when you have been exposed but you are not experiencing symptoms
Thank you to everyone for keeping your children home when they are not feeling well and keeping us informed of any illnesses. With your cooperation we will continue to keep our school community safe.

Just a few reminders:

- If your child is home sick for more then 24 hours we will need a doctors note in order for them to return to school.

- This year with COVID-19 continuing to be active the State Department of Public Health is encouraging everyone to receive an Influenza Vaccination by the end of October. The vaccinations are now readily available. Once your child receives the vaccine, please send proof into school for the nurse to document.

- If your child is home sick and the doctor recommends a COVID test please do not get a rapid test. We will only be accepting the PCR test in order to return to school.

- many of us suffer from seasonal allergies and may experience symptoms similar to COVID-19.

Symptoms more common of seasonal allergies and not COVID-19 are itchy or watery eyes and sneezing.

Symptoms more common if COVID-19 are fever and chills, muscle and body aches, new loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting and Diarrhea.

If you obtain positive results after school hours, please email Mrs. Tiezzi (ptiezzi.stritaschool@gmail.com) and the nurse (lpalma.stritaschool@gmail.com)

When in doubt call your pediatrician.
