Glimpses of MCS by Mrs. Obbink

Recently, the 3 ^rd -5 ^th graders have been learning who they are in Christ. One of their assignments was to write their thoughts down and then illustrate a picture of themselves using their words. Their pictures are unique to them and their words are from their hearts.

Below are two samples. As you read these words, revel in the grace God. What a blessing it is to have the opportunity to share the profound truths about God and our identity in Christ at school.

Identity in Christ (4 ^th grade)

I find the fact that I am a masterpiece in God’s eyes comforting. The reason that I like this part of my identity is because I feel like I am nobody. It makes me feel like I am somebody. God is my rock. He is my salvation. This means I have nothing to be afraid of. All in all, God will protect me always.

I am surprised that my sins are forgiven. I was surprised when I heard that because I sin a lot. I honestly feel better knowing this. I am a Christian. I worship God with music. God is my life.

Identity in Christ (4 ^th grade)

I am a child of God. I am his forever. I am God’s. He is my father. I am adopted by Christ; he is my everlasting father. This is who I am in Christ. I am blessed to be his forever. He is my salvation. He helps me through the dark and into the light. He is my God and will always be my God. I am thankful for his word and support and love for us that he would give his life for us. He is my rock in everything and will always be there to sling down my enemies and help me. This who I am and was made to be.

I am forgiven. I am beautiful in God’s eyes. I am who God wants me to be and I am not surprised who he has made me. I am happy being what God wants me to be. Also, sometimes I do get surprised in who I am, but I must accept that it is me and I am who God wants me to be. All in all, I am not always surprised in who I am or my identity.

REGISTRATION!

This year we opened Re-enrollment (current families) for next year early, beginning, Tuesday, February 18th. If you haven't yet registered, and you would like to receive a $75 discount off the $500 registration fee, be sure to register by February 28th. Stop by the office any time between now and then. Service hour credit will also be applied. Open enrollment will begin March 2.

AUCTION!

Theme: "Knight At The Carnival"

Date: Saturday, April 4th, starting at 4:00 p.m.

Location: The Rock Church in Monroe

Did you see the "save the date" poster? Aren't they beautiful? Thank you, Melina and Pablo Guerrero, for designing it. Watch for your auction invitation soon! Receiving your RSVP as soon as possible helps us greatly with auction planning.

Have you brought in your procured donation/s yet? Need ideas? Here's a list to get your creative juices flowing: Donation Ideas. No time to shop? We can use gift cards for $20, $25 and $50. Please bring donated items to the school as soon as you can! If you are unable bring them to the school for any reason, please email a description and value of your item to [email protected] so it can be included in the catalog.

Please remember to follow up with businesses that you have visited regarding auction donations if they did not donate at the time of your initial visit. Also bring donations in to the school office as soon as you have them along with the filled out procurement form.

Also, we need 20 desserts for the Dessert Dash portion of the auction. If you would like to donate a dessert (it can be homemade, procured, or purchased), please contact Becky Werkhoven at 360-794-8200 or [email protected]

STANDARDIZED TESTING

Standardized Testing has been an important part of assessing the yearly progress of our students in 2nd-8th grade. The testing is also another way of verifying the validity of our curriculum. Please mark your calendar, the Iowa Assessments test is the week of April 6-9, 2020.

POPCORN DAY

This Wednesday, February 26th is Popcorn Day! If you would like to pay in full for the remainder of the school year , p lease bring in-full payments to the office. Individual payments can go directly to the teacher. Please note, any missed days will not be refunded.

7 popcorn only = $3.50

7 popcorn + juice = $7.00

OPEN HOUSE FOR PRESCHOOL/PRE-K & KINDERGARTEN

Open house for the Preschool/PreK and Kindergarten is scheduled for Friday, March 20th from 9 am - 12 pm and 6 – 7 pm. Invite your family and friends! Invitation cards are available at the office, if you know of anyone who is interested. This is a great opportunity for prospective and current families to visit.

COMMUNITY CLASSES

Are you interested in learning about Therapist Strategies that Support Relationships? If so, this may be something for you. Check it out and register. Class begins Tuesday, March 10th and will be facilitated by Annie Redd. Click here for more details.
