This Week: Climate Acton Progress, La Fontana Reopens, Penguin Plunge & more!

Mayors Message

This week’s Monday newsletter is coming to you on Wednesday as we focused on important blizzard communications — thank you for your understanding!

Our crews have been hard at work digging out and cleaning up — and we think it’s safe to say we’ve officially had enough snow for one winter!

Spring is right around the corner in Nyack, and with it comes a season full of energy, creativity, and community events.

First, please join me in welcoming Edgar and Maria Dominguez, the new owners of La Fontana on South Broadway. This beloved restaurant is entering an exciting new chapter with refreshed menus, new energy, and Sunday brunch that’s better than ever. Be sure to stop by and support our newest local business owners.

Spring also means it’s time for our Spring Event Guide. Even though we are still dealing with winter, we’re only about a month away from the beginning of Spring. Clocks spring ahead on Sunday, March 8! We are starting preparations for our Nyack Spring Events Guide, which will cover events from the end of March through Memorial Day.

If you want your event in the Guide, go to this link: www.nyack.link/submit. Please fill out the form there with all the details, including a short blurb describing the event.

To see the current Events Guide, you can always go to nyack.link/events.

Finally, I want to thank the members of our Climate Action Committee for their continued hard work. The committee is advancing initiatives focused on sustainability, resilience, and reducing our community’s carbon footprint.

We’ll be sharing more updates soon, including opportunities for residents to get involved. Nyack continues to lead by example when it comes to local climate action, and that’s something we can all be proud of.

I hope to see you at the Penguin Plunge on Sunday, March 1, from 12:00–2:00 PM at Memorial Park. I’ll be taking the cold plunge myself to help raise funds and awareness for seriously ill children who will benefit from this wonderful (and very chilly!) community event. Come out, cheer us on, and support a great cause!

Spring is Coming — and so is the Spring Event Guide!

Nyack's Progress on Climate Action

The Village of Nyack showed its continued dedication to climate action in 2025 with several major accomplishments and projects and activities. The Village guided five NYSERDA funded construction projects at municipal buildings through planning and design so they were all nearly shovel ready by the end of the year - no small task! In June, the Village achieved Silver Certification level in the Climate Smart Communities program, just a year after recertifying at the bronze level.

Throughout 2025, Nyack's Sustainability Coordinator, staff and community stakeholders developed the Nyack Climate Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan, which was finalized and adopted by the Board of Trustees in December. All the while, the Climate Smart Committee continued to check off actions outlined in the Nyack Climate Action Plan. Read the full report here.

Coming Up This Week

A Suit. A Tie. A Very Cold River.

Apparently, shoveling snow wasn’t cold enough for me — so this Sunday I’m taking the plunge at Nyack’s Penguin Plunge! If I hit my $1,000 fundraising goal, I’ll be jumping into the Hudson in a full suit and tie. That’s right — dressed for Village Hall, swimming for a good cause. I hope you’ll chip in and come watch me question my life choices and help some seriously ill children and their families!
