Introductions to Today’s Lessons
Genesis 12.1-4a
In a time of migration of peoples about 4,000 years ago, Terah has travelled west with his son Abraham, Abraham’s wife Sarah and his grandson Lot from Ur, near the delta of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. They have settled for a time in Haran. Upon Terah’s death, Abraham comes to center-stage.
Romans 4.1-5, 13-17
Paul has written that one can attain a right relationship with God through faith, without living by Mosaic law. Now he takes Abraham as an example; he asks: what can we conclude about coming to God by faith rather than by Law?
John 3.1-17
Isaiah has been told that most people will reject God’s message, preferring their traditional ways. Now Nicodemus, a devout and learned leader in Judaism, shows himself to be so steeped in traditional ways of thinking about God that he rejects Jesus’ teaching about how to enter the Kingdom of God.

ATTENTION KNITTERS, CROCHETERS OR AFICIONADOS OF THE SAME!
A few of us have elected to join thousands of others to express our protest against the horrific ICE abuses that have taken place in Minnesota and elsewhere by knitting a special Red Hat.
Some of you may have read about this in a recent article in the Episcopal Service News, or the New York Times. Handmade knitted red hats were originally created and worn by Norwegians during the Nazi Occupation and were in fact banned as they soared in use as highly “silent” but visible protest statements. Starting in Minnesota and spreading elsewhere, several patterns were recently created recently from the original, and many thousands have been made and are being worn around the country.
You can support the project by simply purchasing either the crochet or knit pattern (available for $5 at ravelry.com) or knit or crochet one if you are able. Either way, you help build awareness and provide support for this effort.
Contact Ashlin Bray or Ron Stach for further information or to help.
