Dear St. Rita School Parents and Guardians,
Our recent Sweetheart Dance was a sold out event thanks to the incredible efforts of our HSA chairpersons, Robin Innaimo and Tayna Rucker. It was truly heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the event together. I would also like to thank all our parent volunteers, especially Barbara Roccia and P & M Market for the delicious dinner, and our DJ, Tom Fortuna, for helping the girls and their sweethearts dance the night away. Thank you to everyone who participated.
This weekend, March Madness begins in the Archdiocese when three of our basketball teams play in state tournament games. Throughout the Archdiocese this basketball season has been very upsetting for our school superintendent and many of my principal colleagues due to the poor behavior of players, coaches, and spectators. Many schools have been plagued with significant spectator concerns that have disrupted the play of a game, brought the attention of the police, or, at the very least, disregarded the Catholic dimension to our elementary school athletic programs. This type of behavior will not be tolerated during the state tournament games from players, coaches or spectators. I ask each St. Rita parent and spectator to please read the attached Code of Conduct for Spectators which mirrors our St. Rita Way tenants. Please continue to practice and share the St. Rita Way with all those you meet. Thank you for your support in promoting the moral and character development of our student-athletes.
Our Boys JV, Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls will all see action this weekend. The schedule is listed below should you want to attend. In addition, our JV Girls are also playing in the St. Mary, Milford 50th Annual Basketball Tournament on Sunday at 6:30 P.M. In addition, our 3 Crusader Crusher Robotics teams are also in state tournament competition this Saturday from 9-4 at Plainville Middle School. Good luck to all our teams!!!
Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Liturgical season of Lent. We will be attending 9:00 Mass at St. Rita Church. Please join us. As we all know, Jesus retreated into the desert for forty days to prepare for His ministry. It was for Him a time of reflection and contemplation. For us, Lent is time to find occasions when we create a little emptiness and silence around us, rediscover the road to our heart, remove ourselves from the noise of external distractions, enter into contact with the deepest source of our being and faith. Throughout the forty days of Lent, our faculty and students will focus on prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Our goal is to get our students to think beyond themselves and to focus on kindness and mercy.
Last Friday our 7th grade class began the Alpha for Teens program. This program is an offshoot of the Alpha program which Fr. Tiano and our St. Paul VI Parish have so successfully embraced. In concert with the parish religious education program we are now introducing our St. Rita students to the Alpha for Teens series. Over the next few weeks, our young people will explore their questions about life, faith, and Jesus. We are so grateful to Suzanne Hamling for facilitating the program and to our faith-filled volunteers Beth Smith, Sr. Jude Ruggeri, Fr. Eric, Doug DeCerbo, and Dolores Fortuna for helping to guide this rising generation of disciples in discovering and nurturing a meaningful relationship with Jesus. Please keep our students in your prayers. If you would like to learn more about the Alpha program in our parish, please contact Diane Dinehart at 203-248-0141.
The 2nd Trimester will end on Friday, March 7 and we will be closing the portal so teachers may prepare their grade reports. Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, March 12 and optional conferences will take place on Thursday, March 13 from 1:00-4:00. Please contact your child’s teacher directly to request a conference.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Be sure to enjoy this beautiful Spring-like weather.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
