Together in Generosity

NIC has demonstrated remarkable faithfulness through generous giving and shared commitment to healing and ministry. This year marks the successful completion of the Repair the Harm to Children campaign, the distribution of Emergency Solidarity Fund support to immigrants and communities facing hardship, and celebration of the many churches that gave at 100 percent or more of their financial responsibility. These milestones reflect a conference practicing hope through tangible action, standing with survivors, immigrant communities, and ministries across the connection.

Thank you to the Prairie Central churches that gave 100% or increased their giving from last year. Churches with a + sign increased their percentage from the year before.

Prairie Central friends,

Thank you, Prairie Central, for your faithful apportionment giving!  You can see the list above of churches that paid 100% of their apportionments or that increased their giving in 2025. In addition, there are many (including several of our largest churches) who came very near, going the extra mile.  Your efforts do not go unnoticed.  Every church, every member, contributes to the whole and to making us whole.  Remember, financial giving is a means of grace.  May the fruit of our generosity be known in us and among us!

As we journey through these forty days of Lent, let us continue to practice the generous hope we know in Jesus!

Every Blessing,

DS Rev. Wendy Hardin Herman

Prairie Central District Superintendent

March/April Reporter Available Online

In this issue of The Reporter, read how Northern Illinois United Methodists are living out faith through hope, generosity, and courageous ministry. From mission teams revitalizing a Bahamian camp and prayer vigils in solidarity to churches transforming historic spaces into affordable housing, this issue highlights stories of service, advocacy, and connection across the conference. Read Bishop Schwerin’s Lent reflection, and Rev. Fabiola Grandon-Mayer's focus on youth voices. Rev. Danita R. Anderson reflects on historic women, while Co-Lay Leader Eugene Williams reminds us that we need to be full of hope. Rev. Christian Coon asks us to share our "why" stories.

Video Showcases Chicago Churches’ Help for Immigrants

When Fear Knocks, the Church Shows Up: A Chicago Story” tells the stories of how immigrant communities in Northern Illinois struggle to continue working, attending worship, obtaining groceries and other needs, and sending their children to school, and how conference churches have reached out to help. The production of this video demonstrates how the United Methodist connection supports our active sharing of Christ’s love and mercy with our neighbors. Read more and watch the video.

Looking for Sister Churches

The CCORR Immigration Subcommittee is encouraging the creation of sister churches as a way for communities with that are culturally different to learn and grow together through mutual support and encouragement. A group of people with experience in a sister church program will help interested congregations navigate the process of beginning a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship with another church. We currently have two churches in Chicago with primarily immigrant congregations interested in partnering with another church. Please contact Lisa Rogers if you would like more information.
