Together in Generosity

NIC has demonstrated remarkable faithfulness through generous giving and shared commitment to healing and ministry. This year marks the successful completion of the Repair the Harm to Children campaign, the distribution of Emergency Solidarity Fund support to immigrants and communities facing hardship, and celebration of the many churches that gave at 100 percent or more of their financial responsibility. These milestones reflect a conference practicing hope through tangible action, standing with survivors, immigrant communities, and ministries across the connection.

Thank you to the Prairie North churches that gave 100% or increased their giving from last year. Churches with a + sign increased their percentage from the year before.

Rockford: Christ UMC, Endures Sanctuary Fire

Christ United Methodist Church in Rockford suffered a fire on Monday night, Feb. 23, that started in its organ. Thanks to the fast response of the few in the building at the time, damage was limited. The church sees much reason to hope as it recovers. Read more.

Dear Friends,

We are in the sacred season of forty days, a time of drawing closer to Christ on the journey towards the cross and the promise of resurrection. Lent calls us to prayer, repentance, generosity, and renewed hope. As you lead your congregations in worship and mission, I pray that this year’s Lent will be a time of deep spiritual growth.

Please keep Christ UMC in Rockford in your prayers. Monday’s fire in the sanctuary caused significant damage, and there’s a long road ahead for restoration. The pastors and staff have already been working tirelessly to begin the process of repair, and your prayers and support will mean so much in the days to come. May God give strength resilience, and a deep sense of trust.

The district leadership event on Saturday, March 7, originally scheduled to be held at Christ UMC, has been relocated to Grace UMC in Rockford. We are deeply grateful to the people of Grace UMC for their generous hospitality in accommodating this change.

I hold each of you in my prayers. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or needs.

Blessings,

DS Hwa-Young

Prairie North District Superintendent

Looking for Sister Churches

The CCORR Immigration Subcommittee is encouraging the creation of sister churches as a way for communities with that are culturally different to learn and grow together through mutual support and encouragement. A group of people with experience in a sister church program will help interested congregations navigate the process of beginning a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship with another church. We currently have two churches in Chicago with primarily immigrant congregations interested in partnering with another church. Please contact Lisa Rogers if you would like more information.
