The celebration of the conferral of papal honors for those priests who were recently designated by Pope Francis as “monsignors” took place at a prayer service at St. Thomas Chapel at the Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Hartford in Bloomfield. Archbishop Leonard Blair presented each of them with their personal certificate signed by
Pope Francis.
Congratulations to Monsignor Joe!
St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

Dear St. Rita Parent,

I am pleased to announce that St. Rita School recently received notification from the Commission on Independent Schools that we have been granted continued accreditation by the New England Schools and Colleges (NEASC).   In reaching its decision, the Commission reviewed our Self-Study Report and Visiting Committee Report. The Commission identified many areas for commendations particularly commending “the entire school community for valuing and living the School’s mission” and also commending “the faculty and administration for providing an exemplary academic program which makes excellent use of the available resources and results in an outstanding educational experience for the students”.

Our next step is to respond to the recommendations made from the Self-Study, the Visiting Committee and the Commission. The following major recommendations will need to be addressed when we file our Two-Year Interim Evaluation Report in 2021. Those recommendations include: “that the pastor, administration, and advisory board establish and facilitate a process for long-range planning which involves all constituents and incorporates both short and long-term initiatives” and “to continue to monitor the impact of the recent closure of St. Stephen School on the St. Rita community.” Parent input on both of these recommendations will be solicited. Thank you to everyone in our school community, most especially to our wonderful and dedicated faculty and staff, for all their hard work on the accreditation process.

Re-enrollment contacts for the 2019-20120 school year will be sent home to each family this week. We ask that you return the completed agreement and $150 per student non-refundable deposit to the school office by March 26, 2019. Information regarding the Smart Tuition Program and Smart Aid (tuition assistance) must be completed/updated on-line. Please refer to the letter which accompanies the re-enrollment contract for more specific information. In order for you to re-enroll your child you must be current with your 2018-2019 tuition account. You may call or email Mrs. Paula Nugent, school business manager at 203-248-5513 or with any questions regarding your tuition account.

Finally, I have been notified by the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic School of the availability of four different scholarship opportunities for St. Rita School families. These awards are based on academic excellence and financial need. Information about the specific scholarships can be found below under the Scholarships Available heading. Please take advantage of these opportunities being provided by FACS to make your child’s education more affordable.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Have a blessed week.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

From the Nurse's Office:
Connecticut requires physicals for entry into 7th grade as well as a tetanus booster and a meningitis vaccine. These physicals must be dated after May 1, 2018. Notices will be coming home today for those 6th grade students who do not have an up to date physical in my office. If your child has had a physical after May 1, 2018 please send in the paper work to school. If your child has not had their 7th grade physical yet please schedule an appointment. If you are planning on having this physical done over the summer please contact me so that I can document that. All physicals must be in my office before the start of school in August.
Thank you

Scholarships Available
Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools (FACS) is offering four different scholarships now available to St. Rita School.
By way of background, FACS was founded in 1983 and its mission is to support and assist the parish schools and the Archdiocesan High Schools by providing funding for scholarships and special projects. The Foundation believes that Catholic schools provide an “education for a lifetime”, especially for the poor and underserved children and youth of the Archdiocese of Hartford. FACS’s scholarships are made possible by many generous donors who, like us, believe that our schools provide students with an outstanding, values-based education.
Scholarships include:
Archbishop's Scholarship
Dynia Scholarship
Patrick Latina Scholarship
Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell Scholarship

Please submit completed application to Mrs. Tiezzi by MARCH 12th.

Sacred Heart Academy News:

Experience  Excelsior— Saturdays @ SHA  offers girls in grades 5 to 8 an opportunity to experience the serious fun of learning without the extraneous pressure of formal grades, putting them in contact with ways of thinking, seeing, and doing that challenge them to reflect deeply and think critically. The program is filled with workshops and activities that promise to inform, engage, and entertain participating students while they make new friends.

Two sessions have been planned—Saturday, March 2, and Saturday, March 30, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am on the Sacred Heart campus, 265 Benham Street, Hamden. The program will be led by experienced faculty with the assistance of current students. Middle school girls are welcome to attend either one or both sessions.

  • March 2 – Creative Arts Saturday: Reflecting the wide range of Sacred Heart’s humanities-based curriculum and inspired by trailblazers in theatre, ancient history, and art, students will have fun experiencing the satisfying challenges of World Language, Social Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts, culminating in a short performance.
  • March 30 – STEM Saturday: Participants will use Math, Science, and programming skills to find clues that lead them to learn about trailblazing women who forged new paths, not only in STEM fields, but in business, entertainment, and everyday life. Structured as an Escape Room, students will solve math puzzles, perform science experiments and write programs, using their knowledge and logic to break free.
Snacks will be provided and each participant will receive a t-shirt.

“Discover Mercy” is a morning program offered for fifth, sixth and seventh grade girls and their parents to get their first look at Mercy by enjoying activities, student performances and informal conversations with Mercy students, parents, alumnae, administrators and faculty. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
During "Discover Mercy," girls have the opportunity to spend time in the classrooms with faculty and students while attending “classes” such as Beginners Yoga, Creative Writing, Cheerleading Clinic, Mad about Math, and Theater Arts Workshop to name a few options. All of the choices are listed on the registration page. Here is the link:  Discover Mercy . Meanwhile, parents may attend an informal question and answer session and participate in programs designed especially for them.
Following the morning program, everyone is invited to lunch in the cafeteria and experience a performance by the Mercy Dance Team and the Mercy/Xavier "Vocal Dimension" Show Choir! Mercy Student Ambassadors are available to lead tours of the school at any time during the morning, including a stop at the school store.
