A Message from the Mayor

As Mayor, my job is to ensure that Vaughan remains a safe, secure and affordable community.

That’s why, I’m so proud, that together with my Council colleagues, we passed our 2026 Budget with no property tax increase at the local level and no service cuts.

We are giving residents some relief from financial pressures, fighting traffic gridlock and making real investments to enhance community safety.

This budget demonstrates that you have a Mayor and Council focused on the right priorities, while also giving you a break.

Thank you to everyone who shared ideas and feedback throughout this budget process.

You can count on me to keep fighting for you and delivering results.

IN THE NEWS

In uncertain times, leadership matters.

At the 2026 Vaughan Chamber of Commerce Annual Mayor's Luncheon, I made it clear: Vaughan will not stand still.

Strong local leadership means focusing on the fundamentals:

Safety | Security | Affordability

Here's what that looks like in Vaughan:

Our 2026 Budget includes no local property tax increase and no service cuts, protecting affordability for families and businesses.

For two consecutive years, Vaughan has supported unprecedented investments in York Regional Police to strengthen safety across our neighbourhoods and the numbers are moving in the right direction.

We continue investing in critical infrastructure to fight gridlock and keep Vaughan moving.

We must be bold in order to move forward. This week, I issued a Mayoral Directive asking staff to report back with options to temporarily reduce residential Development Charges to zero for housing units that move to construction within a defined time period, aligned with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's definition of a housing start.

The goal is simple: get more homes built. Faster. More affordably.

We've made real progress and I'm not slowing down.

You have my full commitment to keep delivering on affordability, safety and mobility.

Spending time with the entrepreneurs and builders who power this city reminded me why Vaughan's future is so strong.

The best is ahead.

We are Vaughan. And together, we are securing our future.

Vaughan Council adopts 0% property tax increase

The City of Vaughan’s 2026 Budget and 2027 to 2030 Capital Plan was adopted during the Special Council (Budget) meeting on Feb. 24. The budget delivers a zero per cent property tax increase at the local level while focusing on making life more affordable, prioritizing community safety and fighting traffic gridlock.

Vaughan is the only municipality with a proposed or approved zero per cent tax rate increase in York Region and the Greater Toronto Area. This means, the City’s portion of your property tax bill will have no increase this year.

Your property tax bill is divided into three parts: City of Vaughan, York Region, and local school boards (Province of Ontario for education purposes). The regional and education property tax rates are set by York Region and the Province of Ontario, respectively. The City of Vaughan is legally required to collect taxes on behalf of York Region and local school boards.
