A Message from Pastor Dale

While the season of Lent has only just begun, and we are making our way toward the joy of Easter on April 5, there is so much more waiting for us in the weeks that follow.

April will be a full and meaningful month in the life of St. Paul Lutheran, rich with learning, partnership, worship, and celebration.

On April 12, we will gather for our final ENGAGE: Lutherans! Sunday of the 2025–2026 program year. The theme will be “Law & Gospel.” This core Lutheran understanding shapes how we read Scripture, how we proclaim grace, and how we live as people freed in Christ. It will be a thoughtful morning as we conclude another year of engaged learning together.

Then on April 19, we celebrate one of the great gifts of our congregation, our 25 year partnership with our siblings in Tanzania! Our annual Tanzania Partnership Celebration Sunday will feature guest preacher Pastor Joyce Ngandango, director of Huruma Orphanage in Iringa, Tanzania, who is studying at Luther Seminary this year. We are grateful for the opportunity to hear her witness and to strengthen the bonds that have connected our congregation for the past twenty-five years across continents. We will also share pre-recorded video greetings from the pastors at Migoli and Mtera parishes, reminding us that the Body of Christ stretches far beyond our own walls.

Following worship that morning, on April 19, our Boy Scouts will host their annual pancake breakfast in the fellowship hall. It will be a wonderful opportunity for fellowship, good food, and supporting the Scouts’ ongoing work and leadership.

And then (drumroll please ...), on April 26, we will conclude the month with our Jubilee Sunday Celebration. This will be a day to give thanks for the 25th anniversary of our “Expanding Our Horizons” remodel, to celebrate the early payoff of our mortgage, and to mark the official completion of our five-year Synod Redevelopment process. It will be a joyful homecoming and a hopeful step forward into the next chapter of mission and ministry at St. Paul.

You can learn more about Jubilee Sunday and all that we will be celebrating by visiting the special page on our website. Click Here to Find Out More.

April is shaping up to be an exciting and celebratory month for St. Paul Lutheran. I hope you will mark your calendars, invite a friend, and plan to be present for these important Sundays in the life of our congregation.

See you in church! (and bring a friend!)

ENGAGE: Lutherans!

ENGAGE: Lutherans! A Monthly Worship & Learning Series

Six special Sundays during the school year have been planned, when worship will highlight what it means to be an E.L.C.A. Lutheran, followed by 30–45 minutes of learning for all ages.

The six core Lutheran themes that shape our faith and life together will explore a central “both/and” truth of our tradition.

  • Sunday, April 12 – Law and Gospel - God’s Word both convicts us in our sin (Law) and frees us with the promise of grace (Gospel).

After worship, groups will gather by age: Wild Faith for Littles (birth–5 and parents), Wild Explorers (K–4th grade), 5th–6th graders as helpers and leaders, and Confirmation Vitality (7th–9th grade).

Whether or not you can join Wednesday nights, ENGAGE is another great way on Sunday mornings for kids, youth, and parents to connect and grow in faith together.

GROUNDS & GRACE GROUP

Our men’s group for learning, fellowship, and service meets again on Saturday, March 21.

We’ll start with coffee, treats, a short devotion, and prayer, followed by more hands-on work that can be on your own or together in groups.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fellowship, lend a hand, and serve together. All are welcome to join The 3G Crew!

For more information, talk with Pastor Dale, Myron Carpenter, or Steve Greseth.

THE HUMBLE BEES

Our quilting and sewing group, the Humble Bees, meets on the second Monday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at church.

No experience is necessary, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to quilt or sew, share your skills, or simply enjoy time together in fellowship. Whether you’re an experienced quilter, a beginner, or just curious, you are invited to join the group. And bring a friend!

PARISH NURSE'S CORNER

Raynaud's Disease

The month of February is cold here in Minnesota, we are used to this here but what about those who have health problems as a result of the cold? February is designated as the month to recognize Raynaud’s Disease. It’s kind of ironic as people who live in cold climates are more likely to suffer from this. What is Raynaud’s? It is defined as a response to most often cold, but can be stress, nicotine, or coffee. According to Mayo Clinic, this often affects people’s toes and fingers, limiting circulation and causing vasospasm in those blood vessels as they narrow. This can happen in other extremities more rarely such as nose, lips, ears, and even nipples. People will feel cold or have a numb feeling in the extremities that are affected. This is visible as the color in the affected area will white, and then blue before they eventually return to the original color tone of the skin. It can take up to 15 minutes for the area to return to normal.

There is primary Raynaud’s which is a stand alone syndrome or secondary Raynaud’s which is caused by another disease process such as Lupus. primary Raynaud’s is usually not permanent and is symmetrical in the hands and feet. Secondary Raynaud’s can have more lastly effects as the disease process progresses.

Symptoms include:

  • extreme sensitivity to cold
  • white fingers and toes
  • poor circulation
  • pain
  • numbness
  • pins and needles
  • skin problems/deterioration
  • tingling and throbbing (when circulation improves)

Women are more likely to be affected by Raynaud’s then men. There is no one blood test that can diagnose this problem. There are several options for blood tests that help to determine if you are more likely to suffer from Raynaud’s such as an ANA test. Treatment includes dressing for the cold and making sure to have layers of warm options like socks and gloves while outside in the cold.

Depending on the cause of this disease there are medications that may help with symptoms like calcium channel blockers and vasodilators. If you have severe Raynaud’s nerve surgery or shots of botox may help.

Let our RN’s know if you have a topic you would like us to discuss or have questions about!

We are blessed to have knowledgeable, caring nurses in our congregation. If you have any questions for Joanna or Jamie, call the church office at 651-462-5212.
