Dear Holy Name Families,
So much has happened this week that Monday's weather forecast seems like a distant memory. I am sure many spent last Sunday night hoping to wake up to a snow day. Monday morning brought with it little snow and many disappointed faces...but the teachers quickly got over it and moved on to Catholic Schools Week.
Thank you to Fr. Evans and Fr. Denis for beginning our week with a school mass and thank you to the third grade for your assistance as lectors, gift bearers, and petitioners. On Monday afternoon, we surprised the students with a visit from artist Rob Surette. Rob is a speed artist and motivational speaker. He is also a Master Fine Artist for Disney, Lucas Films, Dreamworks, DC Comics, and Muppets. While painting portraits of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa and others, Rob spoke to the students about following their dreams and how they can make a difference in the world. He also shared the story of how he told his third grade teacher (at a Catholic school) that he aspired to be a Disney artist. His third grade teacher validated his dream and said she looked forward to it coming true. Rob shared a video clip of him visiting his third grade teacher many years later after he was hired by Disney to share that his dream had come true. It was an inspirational afternoon. Rob also gave us a Star Wars print that we'll be raffling off in the near future.
Students enjoyed the rest of the week's activities with Wacky Wednesday, Move Up Day, and Bingo with Buddies. Amidst all the CSW activities, we also hosted our annual Book Fair. We are very grateful to Adele Horwitz and Kavitha Madhuri for organizing this fair. Also, thank you to the dozens of parents who volunteered during the week. We couldn't host the Book Fair without you. Seeing the excitement over new books brought a smile to my face throughout the week. Hopefully, students are enjoying the new titles. Sour Grape is a new bed time favorite in my house.
Next week we have a half-day on Thursday for parent-teacher conferences. We also have two casual days. Since it is a half-day, Thursday is a casual day. Friday is our Super Bowl casual day. Students can show who they're rooting for by wearing red and gold (San Francisco) or red and white (Kansas City). If students have apparel for one of the teams, they are welcome to wear it. For Friday's casual day, we are asking students to donate $1 or more. This casual day will support the 6th grade trip to Camp Agassiz.
On Tuesday evening at 8 pm, parents are invited to attend a Family Tech Talk via Zoom. See more information below.
Have a great weekend.
Best regards,
Mr. Chisholm
