City Council to Vote Wednesday on Shelter Beds
Desparately needed shelter beds are critical to ending people's homlessness
With only one day until our City Council hearing (Feb 3rd), we are working tirelessly to prepare. As we total up the number of petition signatures and as we submit the phenomenal letters of support we’ve collected, we are incredibly grateful. It is because of you that we’ve made it this far.
But with one day left, we wanted to remind you of why your voice matters.
Your voice matters because many of our clients will not have an opportunity to weigh in on our request. This Wednesday’s City Council hearing will begin at 2:30pm. It will be a virtual hearing through the city’s WebEx platform. To participate in the meeting, you must have access to either a telephone or a computer. You must have a schedule which allows you to be available in the middle of the day on a weekday. You must know that our item is on the agenda and which number it is on the agenda. You must be able to wait hours for our agenda item to be called. For these reasons and many others, it is unlikely that the people most impacted will be able to share their perspectives.
This is why we are counting on you to advocate for the people lacking shelter in our community. Even if you are unable to call in on Wednesday, there are still ways for you to use your voice. Today’s “Advocacy Ask” is that you help us flood the online comments section with comments in support of adding shelter beds.
To submit a comment of support, click here. You will go to page 5 and scroll down to Item #62. Select that you are “in support” and explain why you support adding shelter beds. Be as detailed and impactful as possible! Once you’ve made your comment, be sure to ask your friends, family members and loved ones to do the same. These comments are very important as they will become part of public record and will help highlight the overwhelming support for our request.
On Wednesday, you can click here to access the meeting virtually at 2:30pm. Because our agenda item is #62, we anticipate that it may take over an hour for the Council to get to our agenda item. So stay tuned and stay patient. We’ve been waiting over two years for this moment. Your voice is critical in our efforts to bring people #FromStreettoHome.

This Saturday, February 6th is our
First Bottled Water Drive in 2021
While the HSC and our Campus partners are always in need of bottled water, the pandemic is requiring us to start our ThirstAid campaign early this year. CDC guidelines for distancing and sanitation prevent us from offering refillable water stations. Therefore, we need your help to provide water for our collective clients.

Our next bottled water donation drop-off at 15th Avenue & Harrison is Saturday, February 6th from 9am to noon, and it couldn’t be easier. You pull up and our staff will remove the donations from your vehicle. Call Ivan Orozco at 602-282-0849 or email volunteer@hsc-az.org for more information.

You may also contribute online and help us purchase water in bulk at https://donorbox.org/hsc.
