From The Pastor's Desk:
Oh, friends, I received the most wonderful compliment this morning. After leading Chapel time with our pre-schoolers, one of them raised her hand, and ever so politely, said, "You're the best Bible." Can you just feel your heart melt?
William J. Toms famously wrote: "Be careful how you live; you may be the only Bible people read." In Chapel, I explain the Bible is a book that tells us stories about God's love. That's an oversimplification, of course; the Bible is full of war and strife between nations and between siblings. Sometimes that complexity discourages us from opening the Bible, but we know that God's Spirit will bear us up as we seek God's love in the Holy Scriptures.
We also have community that helps people "dig in" to the Bible, whether in worship, youth ministry, or adult Bible study groups. In this continuing season of Epiphany, the season of light, may Scripture be illumined in your hearing and your sight. Be the best Bible you can be, trust God to guide you, and remember that the goal is not to be an encyclopedia of the Bible, but an example of God's love lived out wherever you are.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

Music Ministry
At Lord Of Life
For a number of Christians, Lent is a time to "give up" and try something new. With that in mind, please consider getting involved with our Music Ministry at Lord of Life. You can try bell ringing, percussion instruments, singing in the Choir or Praise Team, or playing a musical instrument. The Lenten season is a little more than 6 weeks long (40 days) and is a great time to try something new. If you are interested, please contact Rick Krause or see him at church. A link to his Rick’s email is provided below.

Book Club
Tuesday, February 15th, 1:00 PM
We will be discussing The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson at our February 15th meeting. Here is a description:
In 1936, tucked deep into the woods of Troublesome Creek, KY, lives blue-skinned 19-year-old Cussy Carter, the last living female of the rare Blue People ancestry. The lonely young Appalachian woman joins the historical Pack Horse Library Project of Kentucky and becomes a librarian, riding across slippery creek beds and up treacherous mountains on her faithful mule to deliver books and other reading material to the impoverished hill people of Eastern Kentucky. Along her dangerous route, Cussy, known to the mountain folk as Bluet, confronts those suspicious of her damselfly-blue skin and the government's new book program. She befriends hardscrabble and complex fellow Kentuckians, and is fiercely determined to bring comfort and joy, instill literacy, and give to those who have nothing, a bookly respite, a fleeting retreat to faraway lands.

From The Editors:
LifeLines Ending Song:
Composer Bernedette Farrell began writing music in the 1970’s. In the 1980’s she joined Oregon Catholic Press and composed her well know hymn, Christ Be Our Light. It became popular not only during Catholic services, but also in Protestant churches. It is a song familiar to many of us here at Lord Of Life and is hymn #715 in our ELW. Enjoy!
|
|
"Christ be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Christ be our light! Shine in your church, gathered today."
Refrain, Christ Be Our Light
