We've got something special for our locals today!
Many people who drive down TC Walker Road have wondered about the big building with the peeling yellow paint. One of our Gloucester High School students, Lauren Landry, collaborated with Community Engagement & Public Information to capture the story for her senior project.
Bravo, Lauren!

Water meter switch-outs have started! Crews from HST are starting from the courthouse area and will be working there for several weeks before moving on to the next section.
Please remember, once your new meter is installed, water might be discolored or have air pockets the first time you turn on your faucets, and just running it for a couple minutes should take care of it. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Public Utilities if you have any questions or concerns at 804-693-4044 or publicutilities@gloucesterva.info.

The February episode of the Current Conversations podcast has been launched! This month, we take a deep dive into the new Public Utilities meters and e-billing software.

Did you know that our Department of Emergency Management builds partnerships with Gloucester's faith-based groups? It's just one of the behind-the-scenes methods our team uses to take care of people.
Often, local churches know and care for the vulnerable people in their areas. Emergency Management wants to be ready to help with that effort in times of disaster. They also have the skills to train neighbors to help each other.
If you're part of a local organization, check to see if your leaders take part in the quarterly Faith-Based Breakfast program. If you want to know more, or get involved, reach out to dem@gloucesterva.info.

Are you familiar with GUEST? It's a safety net we hope every local has heard about !
GUEST represents a coalition of religious and community organizations that helps shelter people on the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. It's a critical resource for Gloucester and our neighbors; this is the only overnight shelter in the span of 10 counties. While they have the most need for volunteer support in the cold winter months, GUEST operates year-round.
If you'd like to get help or give help, visit www.guestshelter.org.

Gloucester County Public Schools Educational Foundation announces name sponsor for 3K and 8K run/walk
Gloucester – The Gloucester County Public Schools Educational Foundation is pleased to announce that Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Wealth Management will be the title sponsor for the fourteenth annual 3K and 8K Run/Walk and Virtual 5K to be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Gloucester High School. The virtual 5K option is available and can be completed between March 1 and March 22.
“Educational Foundation board members are excited to once again plan this community-wide event that provides the funds enabling us to recognize and support our teachers. We’re hoping for a big turnout this year and greatly appreciate the support that Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Wealth Management have provided over these many years as this event has grown,” said Mike Jenkins, Gloucester Educational Foundation Chair.
Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Wealth Management have been involved in sponsoring the event at various levels since the first race held in 2012. Thanks to their commitment, as well as that of many local businesses, individuals and race participants, the Educational Foundation has been able to recognize and support teachers in Gloucester County Public Schools.
“It has meant a lot to us to be the title sponsor every year since the inaugural event,” said Melissa Crawford, VP, Director of Business Services and Regional Executive, Chesapeake Bank.
“The Gloucester Educational Foundation is a champion of our local students, staff and families, and I am proud to be on the Board of Directors and participate in the 3K/8K event each year,” added Gloria Williams, Educational Foundation member and commercial lender at Chesapeake Bank. “I am grateful for Chesapeake Bank’s stewardship and sponsorship of the race and Foundation over the years. It is extra special to work for such a community-minded organization that goes beyond banking in countless ways.”
Though the 2024 event was canceled due to severe weather, proceeds from the event funded the Teacher of the Year awards, presented in May 2024, and over $12,000 in mini-grants, awarded in December 2024, to fund areas in education that were not available to be funded in the general budget.
The March 22, 2025 event will raise funds for the 2025 Teacher of the Year Recognition in May 2025 and classroom mini-grants that will be awarded in December 2025.

Gloucester High School is proud to announce that Gloucester High School senior Paige Willis is the winner of the of the Harry F. Byrd Leadership Award for the First Congressional District. Each year, every high school principal in Virginia can nominate one outstanding senior for this award, which recognizes students who demonstrate achievement in the areas of leadership, character, academics, and public service. After a rigorous application and screening process, the selection committee chooses one winner from each of Virginia’s eleven congressional districts. Paige is the first winner from Gloucester High School in the thirty-one year history of the award.
Paige is a phenomenal young woman who has consistently demonstrated a high level of excellence throughout her time at GHS. In the classroom, Paige has been a straight-A student, maintaining a cumulative 4.500 GPA while taking a very rigorous course load. Paige has attended the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School for Marine and Environmental Science since her sophomore year, where she has taken college-level math and science courses. She has also been a member of the varsity swim team, National Honor Society, and Beta Club.
The area in which Paige demonstrated outstanding leadership is in the GHS NJROTC program. Since joining the program as a freshman, Paige has risen through the ranks to become the Battalion Commander, making her the highest-ranking officer in a corps of nearly 200 cadets. Achieving this rank has required hundreds of hours of school and community service, exemplary citizenship, academic excellence, and exceptional moral character. On a daily basis, Paige serves as a leader and a role model for her fellow cadets, as she carries on the distinguished legacy of the GHS NJROTC program.
Paige was recognized at the Byrd Leadership Award ceremony on February 5, 2025, at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. She received a check for $25,000 cash that can be used for any purpose. Everyone at GHS is very proud of Paige for this accomplishment!
