In 2021, the Federal government formally recognized National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday. This meant that all federal government organizations, federally regulated workplaces (e.g., banks, airlines, post offices etc), and many crowned organizations observed the statutory holiday.
Yesterday, the Province announced that September 30th will be a statutory holiday in B.C. beginning this year. This means that all private sector workplaces will observe the holiday.
This new provincial statutory day of commemoration responds to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action No. 80, which called on the federal government to establish a holiday to honour survivors, their families and communities.

The Royal BC Museum plans to undertake a multi-year, province-wide engagement plan to listen to the people of British Columbia and gather feedback with respect to the future of the museum.
Phase 1 will begin with in-person and virtual information and dialogue sessions which will inform the public of the surveys and longer-term engagement plans. Feedback from these important conversations will be analyzed and relied on for the development of the museum’s formal Phase 2 Engagement Strategy.
Phase 2 involves deeper engagement work throughout the province, progressing through the stages of consulting with, involving and collaborating with the public. This approach, evolving through different stages of public engagement, is intended to help the museum and its diverse audiences envision the future of the museum together.
We are asking everyone across BC to participate in public engagement on the future of the museum, and throughout both phases of the engagement process.
Join us as we embark on this important journey that will help shape the modernization of the museum.

The Richmond Multicultural Community Association is working to support a large number of refugees, including people displaced from Ukraine and Afghanistan, in their resettlement process in Canada. These individuals bring a wealth of experience, talent, and skills to our community.
Employment is a key factor in the successful integration of refugees into their new home, and we are reaching out to local employers to see if they can support these refugees as employees. These individuals currently have three-year work permits. We’ve heard from many local employers that they are currently struggling to fill positions.
If you are interested in learning more about how you can help, and alleviate your business’ skills shortage, please follow the link below, to add your contact information to our list of supportive businesses.
Current clients of RMCS have skills and experience in:
- Food processing and handling
