Austin has been living in the Phoenix area since he was nine years old. He recently came to the Brian Garcia Welcome Center with a staff person from Campus partner Community Bridges(CBI). Austin stated he had been experiencing homelessness in Phoenix for about two years due to drug addiction. He had been reluctant to go into a shelter, and then heard about HSC’s diversion program. HSC staff spoke with Austin’s mother who is living in Oregon, and she was very happy to have Austin come live with her to help him get back on his feet. Austin's mother has a support system set for his sobriety, and also a connection to employment when Austin is ready and able to go back to work. HSC staff purchased a bus ticket and Austin was successfully reunited with his mother in Oregon.
The 836 diversions provided by HSC this past year have been made possible by a combination of financial contributions received from our supporters. HSC is very grateful to be able to provide this program, which is one of several HSC programs that ends homelessness for people every day.
